DRINK!?!

Hey everybody! Don't even ask what happened to me yesterday. It was a loooong weekend, my human said. No idea what that has to do with me, but I guess I'm back now so...

Anyway.

I know the rest of the planet has been hot hot hot for months now. But here in SF (and places like Australia and Brazil) it's pretty much been winter all summer. Until yesterday. And yesterday was h-o-t HOT!

Holy crispy cowpies was it hot.

I have no idea how everyone here survives 3-digit heat. I mean, it wasn't even 80 yesterday and I was pretty close to melting. I did all the things you're supposed to do when it gets hot, but this didn't really make it any less hot. Really annoying.

Even more annoying than the heat was my human. Awhile ago I made the mistake of learning the word 'Drink!' and now she tells
me to drink every 3 seconds whenever it's hot out. Doesn't she understand that if I was thirsty, I would drink?

Apparently not.

But you never know when someone's going to give you a snack for doing what you're told, so I usually try to listen. Or at least pretend to listen. Kinda sucks when your human catches you pretending on video, but I guess if you look cute and make her laugh it's ok.

Pug, that is awesome! You are totally an inspiration! I wish I could do things like that cause I know I'd get some treats, but alas, I just refuse to cooperate. Oh, well. It's finally cooled down a bit here into the low 80's last week and this one, but the real saving grace is the low humidity. Finally I go outside and don't melt!
Love,
Payton
PS. We did miss you yesterday...hope it wasn't your human's tooth! Sending good juju just in case.

Here in OR where we are spending the summer it has been 80 almost every day! I have been close to melting, but my humans do a good job of keeping me cool.

OMP, that fake drinking so funny! I love the big sigh you give when she calls you on the faking and tells you to drink for real.
I'm so happy to see that the sun has finally come to visit you and your human, even if it does mean you are now melting like the rest of us.

Sabrina

You are just too smart for your human, Puglet. If you were hungry than you would drink, sheesh! Momma is always telling me to drink but I just ignore her. If I knew how to Jimmy (which I am unlikely to ever learn) than I could fool her, if only for a minute.

I wish I lived in SF because I would totally go to the fundraiser. Maybe I should throw a fundraiser just to get some good food!

Well, the cold & fog is back today so I guess summer is over. I'm ok with that, but my human said she's starting to mold (???). No idea.

80!!! That is not even hot Puglet! But for your area I guess it is so I won't laugh. But we are still getting 100's here and I haven't been out in so long I forgot what is out there. I even forgot where I've hidden my pooh stash! I do like your 'drink' trick and of course you are so smart for doing it for treats! You rock at thinking smart!

Payton + Frankie ~ My human wants to move to IL or Seattle, but I think the 80's sounds like major pug-melting weather!!!

Tiffy ~ Genius! Let's raise funds and eat food!

To cool down, Wally and I used our Frogg Togg Chilly Pads after our walk...it was hot yesterday! My momma drapes it over our backs when we rest on the tile floor in the kitchen. Looking forward to a delicious D.I.N.N.E.R. at the Axis Cafe PugPROS Fundraiser tomorrow night. We can scarf down some yummy burgers!
Droolin' already :)

Oh Puglet, you crack me up. Love how you are all looking around and stuff, checking if your human is noticing that you are not really drinking.
Very sneaky, and I love that. You are so much better than me though. If my mom tells me to drink, I only do it when I feel like it. Although, I have never been offered a treat for taking a drink. I think I'll put that in the suggestion box!

Puglet,
When it's really hot, we go out on our weekend walks at 5 or 6 before the sun wakes up. After the walk we go right back to sleep.

I'm definitely not a morning hound, during the week after I've had my breakfast, I jump back on the bed, make myself a little duvet nest and enjoy some extra snoozing before we head out the door. During the winter it's even harder to get going and leave my snooze nest.

Hi Puglet,
This is the sort of thing they have with drink! I neeever drink outside my home, no matter how many water bottles she carries along. She bought this cute little thing of which normal dogs, not pugs drink at the park .. in vain!

The video is smart, you do very well. I refuse to learn "drink", I am rather very independent and stubborn. It has been sort of cool here, lots of rain and sometimes I pretend to drink from puddles - she gets very excited and her brain immediately says: danger! It is not easy ..

Have fun at the fundraiser, I would like to come so much and share a burger with you. Or a bratwurst ... or both. Or three of each.

My social life has come to a standstill since yesterday evening in the park. I did not listen. I ran off with a fellow pug, right into nowhere .. two little beige dots at the horizon, very cute. She found us in a creek, big deal! Since I am walking on a rather short leash and she says: Exercise!

I guess I will have a drink.

Pug greetings from Berlin,
Carlos Santana

Oh Pug! You should totally make your human move to IL! It would be so much fun to hang out...and I bet Suki would come to visit again for sure! And then we could hook up with Tiffy too and do that foodraiser idea of hers. That would be awesome! And you know the humans would totally give us food with like 4 times the cute in one room.
Love,
Payton
PS. Agree with Sabrina that the sigh is the best part of the video!

Haha - me and Arnie drink on command too. And when we don't want to, we just "dip our lips". Then water gets EVERYWHERE, and mom learns her lesson.

Thanks for sharing the info about the fundraiser. Me and Arnie are PROS alumni, and mom loves them (she used to be their president, and fostered lots of seniors).

Their hearts are a little sad right now, because Gina lost her battle with the C-word. But the great group at PROS keep on helping pugs.

Hi Puglet,
My human was spraying water out of her nose while watching your video. Do you think you could train her to do the pretend-to-drink trick? It is a little embarrassing, ya know.
I never get told to drink - it COULD be because I have PERFECTED holding a quart or more of water in my jowls and dripping it all over the house afterward.
Love Noodles

Yes it's quite miserable here! 100 degrees and my puppers want to go outside and I won't let them other than to go do their business and come right back inside... It's just toooo hot!

Parents can be so annoying sometimes, Pug. They think are so cool because they tell us to do something and we do it. They don't realize that we're ONLY doing it because a treat might make its way into our mouths, not because we actually are obeying them. Anyway, my parents think your video is adorable. I'm sure they'd deliver pounds of treats if you did that move in front of them. -Love, Sid.

Hey there Puglet,
We like the way you put your nose into the water bowl thingie, Eli does that with a treat bag and he gets yummies. Pays to be smart, right.

Sorry to hear your human is getting moldy ... we are trying to get a visual of what exactly that would look like.

Now if we lived in or near SF we would totally go to Axis Cafe...sweet potato fries are heavenly...we're drooling!

Carlos Santana's "two little beige dots at the horizon..." made my human made funny noises. If she'd been drinking, water totally would have spewed from her nose. She is such a dork!

THE PUGLET said...

Oooh - Gracie + Arnie ~

Huge thanks for the dunk-your-lips tip! A pug can only drink so much, y'know? I usually just blow water around to fake my human out, but it's kinda hard to pant AND blow at the same time.

When I'm not sure what else to do (or know what I'm supposed to do, but just don't feel like doing it) I usually just Jimmy. 9 times out of 10 that gets me off the hook and half the time I still get some sort of reward/snack.

THE PUGLET said...

Wilma -

Next time your human tells you to drink, tell her to give you a cookie for doing it. That's what I did and it totally worked. Sometimes if there's a water bowl around I'll just linger by it and do like I did in the video until someone notices how cute I look pretending to drink. Sometimes total strangers will give me cookies or take my picture even. My best new trick ever.

THE PUGLET said...

Ollie, I can't believe you wake up in the dark to go for a walk. My human wakes up in the dark sometimes to move Mazda for street cleaning, but me and Dutch stay in bed when she does. Heck if I'm waking up before the sun does!

Hi Pug,

You would TOTALLY melt if you visited Austin this Summer. Now that I'm nocturnal, my adventures are at night, but it's still pretty toasty then too.

If you ever visit Payton, I would make another road trip and come and visit as well, we could have a party.

Try not to melt, stay cool and comfy.

Hugs,
Suki

Puglet, you are so smart!! You must be borderlining on Pug genius or something. If they could do a pug IQ you would score high!

Dogs Don't said...

Oh my god, this made me laugh so hard. You're so smart to pretend. It reminds me of something I read, "dogs don't cause themselves discomfort the way humans deliberately do" meaning, drink when you're thirsty and leave it at that...lol

THE PUGLET said...

Hmmm. My human says I'm 'scary smart'. I've even heard her tell people I'm border collie smart'. But genius smart? That's a new one. And I kinda like the sound of it.

Think it might be time to learn something new....
