BECAUSE FOOD *IS* LOVE

So I heard on TV that Monday is Love Day or something. The special-day when humans give flowers and chocolate and stuff that says "I love you". I don't know why anyone would want to get a bunch of flowers when they grow, like, everywhere. And I don't know how chocolate says I love you because I'm a dog and chocolate can kill me. But human special-days never really make any sense so I guess this one is no different.

Since my human's gimpiness has gotten in the way of my blogging, I was able to guilt her into making this year's Love Day more dog-friendly. Y'know, since we can't eat chocolate and flowers are only good for peeing on. And what better way is there to say I love you than with cookies??

Even though my human always says food is not love whenever I try to guilt her into giving me an extra snack or two (or five), she's not a pug. Or a beagle. Or a golden retriever. Or even a kitty. To us, food is totally love. So it only makes sense that celebrate Love Day with food. Right?

Right.

So. To celebrate Love Day, I'm going to give some lucky someone their very own Bubba Rose cookie book. We'll use the Randomizer thing again to pick the winner because random = fair. If you already have one, or are a kitty - you can still enter to win it for a hungry, cookie loving friend.

** Just make sure you comment on this post by Midnight, February 14th **

If you forget how the Randomizer works, here's the lowdown:

I'm going to use this cool Randomizer thing to pick a winner from everyone who leaves a comment. You don't have to say anything special - you just have to say something so the Randomizer knows you were here. Don't ask me how it works, but my human says it's super fair and kinda scientific (?).

Details:

1) Randomizer will pick a winner based on the number of comments on this post. Please leave only ONE comment so my human doesn't have to do any counting. Trust me, we don't want her to do any counting.

2) You don't have to say anything special in your comment, but if you're an anonymous commenter - please leave your name or at least some kind of alias so we know what to call you if you get picked.

3) Winner will be picked from all comments received by San Francisco midnight on February 14th and posted February 15th.

Telling me how cute I am in your comments would be nice, but won't make the Randomizer pick you because the Randomizer is 100% totally random.

PS: I will read everyone's comments (like I always do) but won't comment back so I don't throw off the Randomizer. I told you - very scientific.

RANDOMIZER

Thanks everybody for having a favorite Daisy picture! I think my extrasupercurly tail might have been #1, which is pretty cool if you think about it. I mean, who knew a tail could be so cute??

Anyway. As a thank you... and because this week it's thanks-giving... and just because I can... I'm going to pick one random pug/dog/cat/person to win a bag of Omega treats. My human bought a few different kinds at the store the other day, so whoever wins gets to pick from Salmon, Duck, Chicken and maybe Tuna (we can't seem to find where the Tuna ones went; I think Dutch might have eaten them).

I'm going to use this cool Randomizer thing to pick a winner from everyone who leaves a comment. You don't have to say anything special - you just have to say something so the Randomizer knows you were here. Don't ask me how it works, but my human says it's super fair and kinda scientific (?).

Details:

1) Randomizer will pick a winner based on the number of comments there are at the end of the day. Please leave only ONE comment so my human doesn't have to do any counting. Trust me, we don't want her to do any counting.

2) You don't have to say anything special in your comment, but if you're an anonymous commenter - please leave your name or at least some kind of alias so we know what to call you if you get picked.

3) Winner will be picked from all comments received by midnight here in San Francisco and posted tomorrow morning.

Telling me how cute I am in your comments would be nice, but won't make the Randomizer pick you because the Randomizer is 100% totally random.

PS: I will read everyone's comments (like I always do) but won't comment back so I don't throw off the Randomizer. I told you - very scientific.

AWKWARD!

If you've been on the Daily Puglet for awhile, you've probably seen some of my more, uh, awkward moments. And I don't know why, but for some reason the dorkier the picture, the happier my human gets.

I mean it's bad enough that
humans make us do things like pose in front of the Grand Canyon with a red french thing on our head. Do they really have to take pictures too? Uh, I think we all know the answer to that. Because I'm pretty sure there wouldn't even be a Daily Puglet if it wasn't for my human and Nikon.

Well, I guess the DP isn't the only place on the internet where humans + pets + cameras = funny pictures. There's even a website called Awkwardfamilypetphotos.com that's 100% awkward pet photos.

Well, a few days ago I got a top secret package from a place called Random House. I guess they'd
asked my human if I wanted to review one of their new books and since my human LOVES books, she said yes (heck yes!).

So I was going to do a review on the book, but it's been kinda heavy around here lately (strikes, epiphanies, juju, honking)
and I also kinda forgot a whole entire 11 days worth of Special Days because 1000 Pugs turned my human's brain into jello and our calendar is still stuck on October. So I think today would be good time to break out The Randomizer and give something away.

Something like your very own copy of the Awkward Family Pet Photos book:

If you haven't been Randomized before, it works like this:

1. leave a comment on today's post. Telling me how awesome I am won't help you win, but you can totally say it anyway.

2. On Sunday night (midnight here in SF) my human will count up all the comments, give that number to Randomizer and Randomizer will spit back another number.

3. Whoever's comment matches that number wins their very own Awkward Family Pet Photos book.

4. I'll announce the winner on Monday.

I can't comment because that'll totally confuse The Randomizer, but we'll read them all like we always do :)

RANDOMIZER SAYS...

Ugh. I know everyone's been totally dying to know who the Randomizer picked to win the Omegas. Sorry - my human had to take Mazda to the vet this morning and left me here alone. Without thumbs.

Anyway...

A total of 63 comments happened before San Francisco-midnight on yesterday's Omega giveaway post. I got an email from Lola asking me to add her to the list because the comment thingy didn't work for her. So I added her to the end of the list and made her #64.

I gave that number to the Randomizer and got back the #18. Then my human counted and re-counted and re-counted again (I think that's what took so long, she's REALLY bad with numbers) to make sure she counted right...

And the #18 commenter was....Lucy! As in ILoveLucy. Congratulations! You get to eat a whole entire bag of Omegas. Unless you have brothers and sisters. Then you're probably going to have to share. But I guess sharing is better than not having anything to share. Right?

Anyway. Let us all know what flavor Omegas you want and email your address to me dailypuglet[at]gmail[dot]com so I know where to send 'em!

HAPPINESS DELIVERED

Thanks to a comment yesterday from Dutchess the pug, today I get to show you all the stuff Mr. Chewy sent me. For the record, the box came two whole days earlier than it was supposed to but my Gimpy Brained, China-handed, Benedryl comatose human completely forgot it ever came.

That's right. An entire box of eatables sat unopened for FIVE DAYS. Lucky for my human, it was totally worth the wait.
The box was full of so much awesome stuff, I'm not sure where to start. Hmmm. How about these Sojos BACON treats?

Blue = BACON

Before Mr Chewy's, I'd never even seen Sojos and now I get to eat a whole entire box of them. Don't worry, Dutch isn't going to starve or anything. He got his own *pink* box of Sojos. They're peanut butter & jelly, not bacon, but that's what he gets for being such a freak about pink.

Pink = PB&J

When my human was taking these pictures, I made the mistake of telling Dutch he needs to work on the 'eyes up' part of his Jimmy. He hates Nikon so much I totally didn't think he'd listen, but now he's a Jimmying machine and I have to compete with THIS:

Dutch: Jimmy Machine?

Anyway. There was a bunch of other stuff in Mr. Chewy's box. Like treats for the other 999 pugs (grrr), turkey jerky bars, this ginormous bag of body parts and a special snack called Carnivore Crunch I picked out for a Randomizer give away. The website says it's for cats and dogs, so even the kitties can be Randomized!

If you've new and never been Randomized, it's super easy. Just leave a comment between now and 2am (Puglet time), then check back tomorrow to see if you're the lucky winner. Saying nice things about me won't make the Randomizer pick you, but you can do it anyway.

FAME FOR ME = FOOD FOR YOU

So I was at our local Pet Food Express yesterday stocking up on bully penis when I heard someone say "Is that Puglet?". I didn't know the guy who said it, but he totally knew me. Said he read The Daily Puglet in a newspaper called Bay Woof and recognized me from the article.

Cool.

I haven't felt famous since last year's Green Pug video and the extra attention felt really really good. It felt even better when the lady behind the counter asked if she could have my pawtograph.

Heck yeah! Famous.

Humans go kinda nuts over famous people, so I thought maybe I could use my fame to do something good. Y'know, like score some free snacks for friends. So I asked if I could please have something edible to give away here on the DP. Y'know, give back to everyone who helped make me a star.

(That's you)

The nice Pet Food Express man said yes and picked out some awesome low-fat, breath freshening treats (perfect for pugs). But the ingredient list wasn't very Food Revolutionary so I hunted around for something a little more... real.

It was kinda tough to find something that everyone here can eat (including the kitties), but I think Stella & Chewy's are eatable for everyone. They have about six different kinds of cow in them and are crazy tasty. INSANELY tasty.

I'm not famous enough (yet) to score more than one bag of free snacks, so I'll let The Randomizer pick which lucky someone gets to get them.

Please remember to follow the Random rules:

* one comment each so my human doesn't have to do any counting

* if you're anonymous, say your name in your comment

* comments close TONIGHT at 2am San Francisco time
* come back tomorrow to see who won

I'll totally be reading all your comments, but won't talk back until tomorrow so The Randomizer doesn't get confused.

PS: I totally forgot to check the calendar (thanks Phoebe & Zoey :)

MEET SWEDISH!

Holy SPAM. You guys are the best namers ever! Seriously. I'm so glad it was up to The Randomizer to pick a favorite because I had sooooooo many. So freaking many that I asked my human if we could please get 80 more fishes so we could use all of your names.

But even though I said please, my human still said no to a house full of fish. Something about not wanting to become a crazy fish lady? No idea. But thanks to The Randomizer and Milton the Dunkirk, NY pug (+ a silent/non-randomized vote from Noodles), Fish 2.0 is now Swedish!

Swedish is an awesome name because 1) the fish-formerly-known-as-Fish 2.0 looks like a Swedish Fish and 2) Swedish Fish are my human's #1 favorite candy on earth. I think Swedish really likes his new name too. Fish was kinda mean and now I'm kinda wondering if he was just mad/sad about having such a lame name. I mean, what if he just didn't feel loved?

Anyway.

Swedish is totally not mean so yesterday my human got a snail to keep him company. Fish was a snail killer, so the whole snail thing is kinda new to me. But the snail is pretty cool - big and yellow with giant eyes and crazy antennae things he uses to find food (I think). He can detect the tiniest bits of food from the other side of the bowl. My human says he must be part pug.

Whatever.

I'm kinda thinking before snail ends up with the name "Snail", we (and by we, I mostly mean you) should name him too. Anyone know the Japanese word for snail??

PSes:
Minnie ~ you've got my juju!! I hope you're feeling better :O
Eddie ~ yes! Lots of tick potential near Stinson. Definitely do pit checks. And watch out for sharks - especially great big white ones.
Swisher + Oakley ~ so glad one of us got to see the A's game. We were supposed to be there with Boka (with the green + yellow spots) but my human's stupid freaking mouth had some issue. Apparently she'd rather go back to the dentist than a baseball game. I'm really starting to hate this dentist guy.

TODAY'S SPECIALNESS
As far as I know, today isn't special. But Saturday was - Happy Whelp, Lucky! - and yesterday was too - more happy to Frankie! Unfortunately, I won't be eating cookies in honor of your days (human says I'm getting tubey) but I will be eating an extra carrot.

HELLO PANDA!

YAY! Sooooo happy to say the panda heads made it to Tiffy's house in Illinois. No postal jerk stole them and they weren't eaten until they got into Tiffy's belly.

To celebrate, I'm calling in the Randomizer. Yup. One lucky belly will get their very own box of panda heads (my human says they also come in a "slightly less scary Milk Flavor"). Just leave a comment with your name in it & check back tomorrow to see who Randomizer picks.

And just in case the USPS has a relapse, we'll hide totally the panda heads in a box to make sure they make it to you.

(if you've never been been Randomized read how it works at the end of this post).

PS: The people-whose-name-rhymes-with-Hell killed (!) HAL4 over the weekend and my human will probably be on the phone all day today like she was yesterday.
I think she might cry or kill someone, so please make your comments extra-happy.

RANDOM LOVE

Well, I hope somebody got some food love yesterday because I know I didn't. I waited and waited, but the food just never came. Unless you count kibble and carrots... which I totally don't.

My human pulled a tick off my head, cleaned out my fold and put goo in my eye to make the gunk go away. She said that was love. I guess it could be, but I would rather have had food.

Anyway. A total of 113 comments came in before San Francisco midnight last night so I fed the number into the randomizer:

And the randomizer said the winner of their very own Bubba Rose cookie book is... commentor #17.

My human counted and acounted and counted again, and it looks like comment #17 was from a ridiculously cute pug named Bella Mia. Congrats Bella! Please email me dailypuglet[at]gmail.com so we'll know where to send your cookie book.

And to everyone who didn't win, this would be a really good time to guilt your human into giving you a big fat sympathy snack. Or five.

Oh yeah. Now get this, Bella Mia's profile thingy says she lives right here in the Bay area. I don't think we've never met, but after seeing her cuteness I think maybe we should!

Maybe Love Day really is about love???

JUJU FOR LULU

Before I say who The Randomizer picked to win the Carnivore Crunch snacks, I need to ask for some juju. Big time juju.

It's for my friend Lulu. That's her in today's picture, laying in the dirt looking really unhappy. Lulu isn't usually unhappy, but she'd just done a Flying Wallenda maneuver off the side of a hill and landed funny. And I don't mean ha-ha funny. I mean the kind of funny that lands you here:

Yeah. The vet. Because after Lulu got up from her crazy landing, one of her back legs wouldn't work. Like, at all. Our humans even had to carry her back to the car and Lulu isn't exactly little. Or light.

The vet was worried about something called an ACL, or thought maybe Lulu's hip popped out, so they pumped her full of drugs and did some xrays. Nothing really showed up, so the vet sent Lulu home to rest and sent the xrays to an expert.
Word from the xray expert will come today and we want it to be good, no-surgery news.

So please send juju to Lulu's right back leg. Here's what she looks like, so you know exactly where to send it:

OK! Now, for the lucky winner of the Mr. Chewy's snack giveaway.....

Out of 80 comments, The Randomizer thought 6 was a good number and 6 = Spike. So congratulations Spike & Laurie! Yesterday was their three year anniversary together and now they celebrate it again with supertasty Carnivore Crunch.

Spike, have your human send my human an email with your address so we know where to send your eatables. You can mail me at dailypuglet -at- gmail.com
.

PANDAS FOR SADIE

Congrats, Sadie! Your belly will soon be full of panda heads (you might have to share with your people because, technically, they are people-cookies). The genius Randomizer must have know it's your birthday :)

Please email us your address dailypuglet[at]gmail.com so we can send you some pandas.

I am sooo glad the Randomizer picked a small number. After 5 million hours on the phone with that Tech Support person, I'm not sure my human could count much higher than 2.

The bad news: Tech Support killed HAL4. Or at least put him in a coma. The good news: after 5 million hours on the phone and many HBO words later, a man is coming to revive HAL4. Hopefully today.

Hopefully.

Because with no Nikon and HAL4 in a coma, ther
e isn't much cuteness for me to give you. And I am waaaaaaay cuter than this:

FISH 2.0 NEEDS YOUR HELP!

So, it's no secret that my human sucks at naming things. Dutch is from Holland and according to Google, when you're from Holland you are Dutch. Sure, he came with the name Dutch - but a lot of dogs get new names. Obviously my human couldn't think of a better one.

And then there's me. My name used to be Tanker, but my human called me Puglet instead because I was a pug and I was small. Now that I'm big, she just calls me Pug. Unless I do something bad and/or ignore the first 3 times she yells "Pug!"... then I'm Puglet.

A Dutch dog named Dutch and a pug named Pug. See what I mean about the naming thing??

So last night when The Man brought my human a get-well fish to fill the empty bowl, she was all ready to call him Fish. Just like the last Fish. And when I told her that was really lame, she said "How about Fish 2.0 then?".

UGH.

Of course I totally vetoed Fish 2.0 and suggested that you'd all be much better at picking out a name for Fish 2.0. Y'know, since everyone here is so smart and awesome and stuff. So give me your best fish names & I'll let The Randomizer pick a completely random favorite.

PS: Fish is a he and he is red, blue and kinda shiny.

SPECIALNESS
Happy Whelp to Lando in Cleveland, OH and also the Michigan Puggie!! I'll be eating a squirrel cookie for lunch to celebrate your day (yep - a squirrel cookie).

GUMMY BACON

Today's Bacon Week giveaway item is Gummy Bacon. Yep. That's right - Gummy Bacon. My human says it's kinda creepy how real it looks, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't taste like bacon because it smells like strawberry.

I've never had Gummy Bacon before but I have had Gummy Worms and Gummy Pugs and they are both supertasty. Bacon makes everything better - even if it is made of Gummy.

Tell me how cute I am and at the end of bacon week I'll let The Randomizer pick one lucky winner to get the Gummy Bacon!

Monday, February 14, 2011

HAPPY LOVE DAY!

I hope everyone is having a superhappy Love Day. I thought my human was finally on board with the whole food = love thing, and that celebrating Love Day should = food. But so far all I've gotten today is a walk in the rain and the usual bowl of kibble + water.

Not sure what's up with that, but I guess the day is only half over. Love/Food Day only lasts til midnight though, so I'm not sure what she's waiting for. But I hope the waiting ends soon. Like, now.

Anyway. Another thing that only lasts until midnight is the Bubba Rose cookiebook giveaway.
It looks like the Randomizer will have so many pugs/dogs/kitties/humans to pick from, but if you haven't left a comment on last Friday's post - do it now!

BACON POP!

 Hmmmm. Bacony goodness.

Since I decided to give away my bacon stash, my human can't take pictures of me to show how supertasty everything is. But I'm pretty sure anything that tastes like BACON has to be good. I do have loads of pictures of me eating the marshmallows so if you can pretend marshmallows are full of bacony goodness, I'll pretend they are too.

You won't have to pretend anything about this first bacony giveaway though. It says BACON right on the bag. Yup. 100% real, supertasty Bacon-flavored popcorn. My spotted friend Miley gave it to me, but I know she won't mind if I share the bacon love with you.

Besides, somebody must have shared the love already because the box of Bacon Pop was open and 2 of the 3 bags are missing!?! I don't have thumbs, Dutch doesn't have thumbs and my human doesn't eat bacon... or does she???

Hmmmm.

Anyway. For chance to score the last bag of Bacon Pop, all you have to do is leave a comment telling me how cute I am and I'll ask the Randomizer who should get to enjoy it :)

1, 2, 3 THINGS

Today's going to be kinda random. Not Randomizer-random, so don't get too excited. More like all over the place random.

Randomness #1
In case you're not a big facebook fan (like my human the social-media wimp), you have to see this cool little tag thing we posted on the 1000 Pugs page. I've been wearing it the past few days to test it out and my human says if it survives the rain tomorrow we'll definitely go with them.

Randomness #2

I made my human promise to keep the other 999 pugs off my blog. But I guess if 1000 Pugs has something cool going on, I'm ok with it being here. And since you're my peeps (thumbs or not) I'm totally going to let you in on all the top secret stuff before anyone else knows.

Like this...

1000 Pugs will be announcing some sort of contest thing tomorrow. It will involve food and pugs and cameras and there will be a prize. I also heard my human say something about a 'Dutch version'. No idea, that's all I know for now. Stay tuned.

Randomness #3
There's been HUGE debate here at Casa de Puglet about this last one, but I won so here goes...

Some of you might be wondering why we've never done much with the local pug rescue. I mean, I want to help pugs and my human wants to help pugs - makes sense right? Right.

Except for one thing. Our local pug rescue (who isn't called Pugsavers) does a lot to help pugs but has rejected 100% of all the people we've sent to them. We get a lot of emails asking for the 411 on where to get an awesome pug. Since I'm awesome and also recycled, we always tell people to try rescue first. So it really sucks when the rescue makes it impossible for people to adopt a pug. And we're talking good people. Pug people!

I mean, our local rescue even rejected us. Yep. Before I came a long, my human applied to foster for them and was denied. Something about the wrong kind of stairs? No idea. Maybe the pug gods made them do it so she'd foster me instead, but it's still kinda weird.

They've rejected people for having a pool, the wrong kind of windows, the wrong kind of kids, cats, dogs, jobs. All sorts of stuff. A friend of mine just got rejected because his family has a German Shepard and big dogs eat pugs. And my friend is a pug!!

I'd be cool with all the rejection if there weren't pugs in shelters and on a waiting list to get rescued. But there are.

Anyway. The only reason I'm telling everyone this is because a little pug rescue birdie told us some changes are happening at the rescue and we think maybe things could get better if they got some feedback from people.
Like all at once and sent to the same person.

Sometimes a lot of little voices are louder than one big one.
So...

If you've tried to adopt from the pug rescue here in the Bay Area (I'm not naming names, you know who) and were rejected, just got postcard and/or never heard back from anyone - please let us know your story like ASAP. If you don't want to comment in front of the whole internet, that's cool. Just email me: dailypuglet-at-gmail.com

We really want just want to help the rescue be better for pugs in need and the people who want to love them.

BACON LICKABLE

So, today's Bacon Week eatable isn't 100% eatable. Because you can't really eat a Lickety Stick - you have to lick it. I guess that makes it a lickable?

Anyway.

Even though you can't eat the Lickety Stick, it still tastes like bacon and that's all that counts, right? And there are like 2 calories in every lick so you can lick it A LOT without getting tubey.

Woo hoo!

Tell me how much you love bacon and The Randomizer might pick you to get the Lickety Stick.

RANDOMZERS SAYS... HONK!

There were 92 comments at midnight Casa de Puglet time and The Randomizer randomly decided comment #48 should be the winner of the Awkward Family Pet Photos giveaway. So congratulations Grumpy, Chunky, Barney and Bella in Plantation Florida!

Please email us your address so we know where to send your new book: dailypuglet-at-gmail.com
So, normally this is where I'd pose with the winning thing before handing it over to the PO people. But my human says I'm not allowed to go anywhere near the boo
k because of the honking. Something about not wanting to spread my germs around.

We've been on lockdown since my honking started
because of the whole germ-spreading thing (no friends, no dog park, no fun) and I totally didn't get why until Dutch started honking too.

I guess my germs became his germs
because that's how germs work, so now he's sick like me. Except Dutch's honk is more of an Eh Eh Eh instead of a HONK HONK HONK. Seriously, if a cough could be a color mine would be black with skull + crossbones and his would be pink.

Whimpy whimpy whimpy!

Dutch's honk vomit totally kills what's coming out of me though. My vomit pools are the size of my feet, but Dutch's are almost as big as my human's size 10 hideous pink crocs.

Little honk vomit.

Big honk vomit.

Yeah, I know that's gross. But my human says everyone should see what this stuff looks like so they won't panic and think their dog ate a wood chip (or a fork) if their dog starts honking it up.

I'm feeling a lot better after my trip to the Pug Guru at Bishop Ranch, so now it's Dutch's turn. Except Dutch isn't a pug and we don't live anywhere near The Ranch, so he'll go to a vet here in the city. My human really doesn't love our vet at all and wants to try a new one out on Dutch. If anyone loves a vet in SF, please let us know like ASAP.

Oh, and if anyone has any spare juju lying around, Dutch could use some. The honking isn't serious or anything but you know, he's kinda... sensitive.

#56!

Practice makes famous.

I'm glad my famousness was able to score someone a six cow-part snack. According to The Randomizer, the lucky someone is commentor #56. I'm not 100% sure my gimpy-brained human can count all the way to 56 without making a mistake, so I guess that just makes picking a winner super random but...

Congratulations #56: Coco/aka Treat Lover

(how crazy
is that!?)!!

Send me an email dailypuglet[at]gmail[.]com with all your info so we can tell the postal people where to deliver the Stella & Chewys.

And for the other 74 commentors, I'll try to get even more famous so I can score more snacks. Oh! And if you live near a park (and are in America) the Nutro people are doing this cool national dog park cleanup thing tomorrow and will be giving out free snacks and stuff.

You can look for a park near you & get all the info on the Nutro facebook page.

TODAY IS A SPECIAL CANDIAN SPECIAL DAY
Much happiness to Ollie the beagle in Toronto and Barney the labrador in Ottowa!

Google says there's this thing called an exchange rate so Canadian cookies and American cookies are not equal or something?
So just to be safe, I'll eat a whole bunch of cookies for you both :)
