YEAR OF THE DOG BED

Sorry I've been kinda MIA lately. My human hasn't been feeling good and if she doesn't feel good, neither do her thumbs (and we all know I can't do this without the thumbs). Anyway. Because of this, it's way past New Year and I'm just now getting around to telling you about my human's stupid revolution: to get more sleep. Or better sleep. Or something like that.

And I guess one of the biggest things getting between her and sleep is
Dutch, a.k.a the spotted bed hog. She's tried everything to keep him from taking over the whole entire bed, but somehow he always manages to squish her off into a tiny little corner so he can hog the rest. After much debate, my human decided to make 2011 the Year of the Dog Bed. As in we will no longer be sleeping in her bed. I have no idea why I have to suffer because Dutch is a bed hog, but I've been told that from now on, we'll be sleeping on our own bed.

On. the. floor.

You know I was *not* happy to hear this. Not happy. Not at all. But my human promised she'd find us a nice dog bed to make our nights on the floor totally comfortable. Yeah. Right.

I tried to explain that there is nothing comfortable about the floor, but she said a good bed can make the floor a perfectly good place to sleep. Yeah. Sure it can. If you're not the one who actually has to sleep there. I wanted to tell her that perhaps she would like to try sleeping on the floor, but before I could say a word she went out to the car and came back with a giant box. It had the word P.L.A.Y. written on it so I thought it must be something fun. I forgot all about the floor situation and got all excited...

Until she opened the box and pulled out a freaking dog bed.

Yeah. And before I could ask her what happened to the P.L.A.Y part, she started telling me all sorts of great things about the new bed. Like how it was inspired by a ridiculously cute little Pug named Momo. And how it's made out of soda bottles,
is totally earth-friendly, but still super comfy and very cool.

Honestly? I didn't really care about any of these things. I was a
bout to spend the rest of my life sleeping on the floor. Who can you think about looking cool and saving the planet when you've just been demoted to floor-level??

Momo says...

Then I saw a little tag hanging from the new bed. Th
ere was a picture of a pug on it. Momo. The tag said Momo thinks the bed is too cool and I'm a lucky dog. I think Momo is pretty insanely cute, and she doesn't look like the kind of girl who'd tell you stuff that isn't true. So I hopped on the bed to see just how comfortable it could possibly be.

And you know what? The thing is ridiculously comfortable. Like, even
more comfortable than my human's stupid human bed. It's squishy, but not too squishy. Soft and fuzzy, but not so fuzzy that bits of fuzz get stuck to my eyeballs (I hate when that happens). It was so comfy that I fell asleep in the middle of supermodeling. Falling asleep in front of Nikon is like falling asleep in front of a food bowl. It just doesn't happen.

But it did.

Here's the thing though - even though I reeeally like my new P.L.A.Y. bed, I don't want my human to know it. I can tell she feels really bad about demoting us to the floor because she's been piling on the guilt love (and guilt love means guilt cookies). I say let her be guilty
if it means I'm going to get more cookies. Y'know?

Tag? What tag?

I'd love to give you more details about my new bed but I kinda had to destroy the tag because it s
aid all sort of good things about P.L.A.Y and their comfy beds. I want my human to think I'm miserable, remember? But you should check the beds out for yourself on their website www.petplaysf.com. Especially if your people make you sleep on the floor like a dog. Because if you have to sleep on the floor, you should totally have one of these beds.

Its funny you bring this up, Puglet, cause I just un-demoted (re-moted?) Beulah and Barney from the floor to my bed. I like to sleep with Beulah, but Barney is a big chocolate bed hog. The worst is if I get up at night and I come back to find that he has taken over my warm spot and has suddenly gained 500lbs so cannot be moved. Grr. Its only been a few days, but I am thinking of re-demoting them. The problem is that Beulah cries, and no amount of cookies will help that (I highly recommend it as a way to make your human feel really-super-duper guilty). I'm going to give it until the weekend, then I'm going to wash my sheets and re-evaluate the situation. Maybe they need a new bed...and more cookies!

Hiya Pug!

Your human's revolution sounds a lot like my human's revolution, except *yours* is sticking to it. I totally cannot believe you got demoted, but you've got a sweet retreat at least :)

Ahem. I'm just wondering -- has Dutch layed on the bed *with* you yet? Like are you now going to be the one to suffer because he's still the spotted bed hog? If you protest enough, maybe you will end up with your *own* bed!

Also, how is your human going to *keep* you off of her bed (my human wants to know this)?

Licks,
Molly in PA

Puglet,
We are not showing this to dad. He totally does not like us (all 3 of us) sleeping in bed! He would buy the doggie floor bed in a blink of a pug eyelash! Seriously... and then we would be on the freaking floor.

And what about Dutch is there enough room for him on your new P.L.A.Y. doggie bed or you being the new bed hog???
Way too funny puglet, but we feel for ya. The floor is not made for pugs!

I can't imagine not having the girls with me...even though Tessa is a huge bed hog (actually, more like a down pillow hog). Pearl sleeps on her little blankie on the bed just fine, both snore all night....its a wonderful sound!

ooh Pug, that bed looks awesome - and way more comfy than my actual human bed. You really are one lucky pug!

Christine said...

Puglet-- my parents are desperately wanting to know how your human is keeping you from going on the bed yourself. They have tried everything with me and I still find my way back to the bed.

I want to know too. Is there a metal door involved? Cause we will scratch and howl anytime I'm separated from my peeps. There are 4 of us and the two humans on our king size now and our goofy parents are about to add another pug and are rethinking the whole family bed thing.
Please let us know how the transition goes.

Hi Puglet,
I have always had my own bed since I was potty trained. I love it, it's warm and I have a red blankie. Sometimes I find my brother in my bed. I give hium the evil eye til he gets out.
Besides, my humans rumple around and make snoring noises, so
I am happy where I am, xxxx Penelope

PUGLET!!!! NOOOOOOO!!! the floor is not for pugs (or pugaliers!). daisy and i have fancy custom made wooden beds with super soft cushions in them that we NEVER sleep in. because they're on the floor. so instead of being nice beds for dogs to sleep in, they're fully functional toe stubbers for mommy and (mostly) daddy. AH HA HA HA HA HA HA!!! but seriously. i couldn't sleep without being snuggled under the covers with the peoples (and kicking them when i have dreams, and climbing on them when i need to get out because it's too hot, and then getting cold and wanting to go back under and then climbing all over them to get out again, then climbing on them to get back under the blanket, then sleeping on mommy's pillow because daisy's in the bed and doesn't want me to sleep near her...).

pugsx4 said...

Wow pepper that's exactly how one of the pugs, Coco sleeps!

Puglet,
I'm gassy, I'm twitchy and I make a lot of noise when I sleep, usually around 3 am. BUT there is no way I'm vacating my 2/3 of the human-dog bed.
Right now I'm breaking in a new Siberian goose down duvet and trying out bamboo fiber sheets (environmentally friendly and very comfy!) that just arrived.
I have a nice dog bed which I use for lounging when I don't feel like being on the rest of the furniture. I consider it more of a novelty item than an actual "bed".
P.S. I hope your human feels better soon.

That's a really nice bed! All four of us pugs sleep with mom as well as any visitors that come to stay. But then again, it would probably take all four of us to make up one Dutch.
But Quincy and Isabelle hang out on the floor until bedtime. Isabelle doesn't like to be on the couch, and although Quincy likes to be on the couch, Isabelle misses Quincy. So Quincy hangs out on the floor. That's why we have six dog beds, plus three crates with beds, in the living room. So maybe we'll get one of those beds.

I checked out the beds - did you get the one called 'Frolic' - that would be too funny since your human's photo bus is called Frolic! There is nooooo way Frodo would sleep on a dog bed - he has a wonderful comfy tempurpedic to share with us. Molly demands to sleep with one of her human sisters and poor Cleo gets the left overs. She pretty much is the guard of the house at night and will sleep on the sofa in the living room or the hallway between the girls' bedrooms keeping us safe (which I absolutely love her for doing this for us).

Oh Puglet, that's not right! Actually, I think my humans like sleeping with me as much as I like sleeping with them! I do a little body slam and they love the feel of me curled against their backs. One word: California king bed! Ok, 3 words...
That bed DOES look cool, but I'll bet your mom will soon miss you :)

Oh, we are so sorry Pug. We sleep with our human and she doesn't complain that much. We will sleep on the floor in the summer but not now when it's so cold. Does Dutch have his heated blanket? That may be why he is hogging the bed. Maybe when your human feels better she will change her mind about the floor. We hope your human feels better really soon. Maybe she needs our human to take care of her until she feels better. She takes care of all of our human family and friends all the time and she's really good at. We are more than willing to share her. Good luck with the bed situation and give your human a feel better cuddle from us.

I'd consider myself lucky if I were you, I mean you've enjoyed your mom's bed up until now. I used to sleep in a crate! Once I was potty trained, I upgraded to my own bed. Mom and dad don't let me sleep on their bed, they say it's too high up and I like to visit the emergency room. I like your new bed though, so awesome looking. Make sure Dutch doesn't get on it.

Awww...I am sorry Puglet. Boo (also a pug) prefers to sleep elsewhere now cuz' he associates it with a "T-R-E-A-T." There is no breaking him of this crazy habit I created. This human misses the days when her pug Boo used to sleep with his head resting on hers and snore, snore, snore.

Yes, I sleep on my humans' bed. There was never any question. When I moved in I hopped up there and the rest is history. Only problem is, the bed is really high. One time I didn't quite make it and came crashing down. I cried and cried. I wasn't hurt, just humiliated. Now, at bedtime, my humans say, "Elevator up!" and pick me up and put me on the bed. Oh yeah!!

We have our human fooled into thinking she shares the bed with us...little does she know we are letting her sleep with us! Its really high, so she put a bench at the foot. Pearl has her carry her up the stairs from downstairs, and lifts her into bed...princess! Nice down comforter and pillows as well.

Wonder what would happen if we kicked her out and made her sleep on the floor?

Ha, I got divorced this year and the pug in the bed is an excellent screener! If someone I'm dating complains, see ya! She's been with me through the worst, and is an excellent cuddler...

We have a dog ramp to the bed so the older pugs came come up

Here's a tip from a PNW large-sized bedhog: They sell dog bed warmers (and heated dog beds, but it looks like you already have the non-heated variety) that you slide under the bed and plug in when needed. My human got tired of me and my 100 lbs. hogging up the entire bed every night, but that bed on the floor was just waaay too cold... until she got that awesome heater thingie (they are online, but picked ours up at the local pet superstore for about $40). Now she has a hard time getting me out of it unless it's time for my breakfast!

Puglet,
when my humans got the puppies this summer they decided 4 pugs in a king sized bed would be too many. so they bought 3 more dog beds and put baby gates on the bedroom doors - I won't scratch at the gates, but give me a regular door and i'll scratch and whine away until Mom gives in!

your pal,
Uff-Da

Puglet!

Your human and my humans must be eating the same thing for breakfast! Winston and I have to sleep on top of a (nicely) cushioned cedar chest at the end of the bed on our dog beds! Our humans want sound sleep this year...and so do we! So, we agreed to sleep in our beds and they sleep in their queen bed, and we are all getting great sleep now! Can we just get new beds like puglet did?
