WOODCHIPS STRIKE AGAIN

Last night we got an email that made my human make sad noises. Y'know the kind of noises that aren't quite as sad as leaking eyes, but definitely aren't happy? Those kind of noises.

Turns out our pug friend Wendell didn't get to go to a Memorial Day food party either. Because he had to have emergency surgery. Because he ate a woodchip the size of a stack of five quarters. And it got stuck.

Yeah.

Wendell is doing OK now. But I know how it feels to have a giant woodchip in your belly and it isn't exactly a good time. And having to get a woodchip taken out at the vet is definitely waay worse than not getting to go a food party. Wendell, I totally feel for you.

My human says it's just a matter of time before I eat something that my {quote} "bionic supercolon" can't handle. She says I should learn from Wendell. And Anakin. And Lilo the Great Rock Eater. And all the other pugs & dogs who've ever been cut open because they ate something un-eatable.

I'm not 100% convinced that anything is truly uneatable if you try hard enough. My human says Wendell probably thought the same thing when he was gulping down the giant woodchip. She says just because you can swallow something, doesn't mean you can eat it. Don't tell her I said this, but I think this theory needs further testing.

Wendell, I'm superglad you're OK. Feel better soon!

Puglet you are too funny. But your human is right, be careful! You are not superpuggy, even though you may think you are. Just try to stick to things that are chewable. Hope you friend gets better soon.

Having to go to the vet because you ate the wrong thing is a real downer!!! Trust me on this Puglet!! Now don't get me wrong, I thoroughly agree with you that further testing needs to be done on this theory. I'm just being more selective about what I test it on!! =)

Yikes! Those chips are dangerous. I'm thinkin' maybe I should try and be more careful about what I ingest. So sad about Wendell... I'm sending well wishes to him and Anakin. Thanks for the "heads up" Puglet... you deserve an "edible" treat for that!

Hi Puglet... we like to eat rocks. Our human gets mad and yells 'no rocks' but we don't listen. Then she bribes us with treats..we spit rocks out, eat the treats then look for more rocks. And the littlest pug in our family Eli, he eats string, paper, bugs, gum, dead things from on the road..he's bad!

My Mommy keeps saying the same thing, I agree with you! Looks like I won't get to prove her wrong anytime soon though, she is MEAN at guarding some of her food and makes me spit out things on walks!

That's true that even if you can swallow something it sure doesn't mean you should eat it, alright! In my pet sitting experiences I cannot count the amount of times I've said, "Open your mouth" or "What are you eating?" It's the pugs who are very, very sneaky about grabbing items off the road but they can be caught but I'm not sure if they learn lessons from their swallowing habits BUT I sure hope Wendall learned his lesson, poor guy!

Hi Puglet! That's so sad about your friend Wendell. I super hope he's back in action in no time.

I'm not a fan of woodchips even though I have them all over my yard. I guess I'm more of a foodie and prefer human food to non-edible tree bark. I'm just saying.

Well Puglet,
From the looks of your comments, there has been plenty of research into the pitfalls of eating non edibles. Please learn from these other puggies mistakes and stick to digestables. I don't think I could stand another friend going under the knife.
I sure hope your friend Wendell has a speedy recovery.

Hmmm...I don't get it?!? Wood chips aren't very tasty, at least Spencer and I don't think so. Our park is filled with them (I know you know that first hand Puglet) and we never touch them. Mom is glad that we don't because then we'd have to play someplace else. I hope Wendell gets better soon and I will keep him in my puggie thoughts.

Odey, I guess you're right. But aren't woodchips in the chewable category? Maybe semi-chewable?

Oooohm Sugar - cocoa mulch sounds even tastier than regular old woodchips!! But I'm pretty sure my human would KILL me if I tried to eat chocolate woodchips :)

Lilo, have you really stopped eating rocks?? I don't think even surgery could stop me from eating rocks.

Hi llie, Emmitt and Eli ~

I have a "no rocks" command too. I don't get cookies for it though!! I don't have any problem spitting out rocks either. For every rock you don't eat, there are hundreds more waiting to be eaten, right :()

Bella-T + Spencer!

You are so lucky not to have the woodchip fever (you too Stubby!). Your kinda-private dog park is really nice but, oh, the chips! Sooo many chips! There's no way I could ever resist that kind (or any kind) of temptation.

Hmmm, my human says with his THREE surgeries, Anakin should be the poster-pug for not eating un-eatable stuff :)

Sorry to hear about your friend, Wendell, Puglet. I ate the spoon part of a wooden baking spoon not too long ago. Luckily I chewed it up before swallowing. And under my vet's recommendation, my Mommy gave me half a loaf of bread to help cushion it too. And thankfully I passed it without a problem. So try not to eat a wood chip in the future, Puglet; but if you do, at least chew it first.

You got to eat half a loaf of bread????
Seriously? When I ate the big woodchip all they gave me was this yucky mineral oil stuff that made my butt leak!

Next time I'm going to eat a spoon.
