THE FOG

If you live anywhere but San Francisco, summer means hot. But if you live in San Francisco, summer means fog. And fog is definitely not hot.

Usually fog isn't a problem in our neighborhood because
a great big hill keeps it out (picture the fog as a great big icky donut; we live in the middle, empty bit). But lately it's been foggy and gloomy and not-hot everywhere.

Since I'm a pug and start to melt if it's hotter than 65 degrees, I don't mind the fog and cool weather. But it's starting to drive my human nuts.

ME: can we go to the beach?
HUMAN:
no, it's too gross out.

ME:
can we go hike with the cows then?

HUMAN:
no, it's too gross out.

ME:
is there anywhere we CAN go??

HUMAN: Florida?

Fog (on a good day)

Today in the car she even had the heat on. Yeah, the heat. I don't think we're going to Florida any time soon, so maybe if my human knew the sun was is still in the sky *somewhere*, she'd feel a little better about the fog situation.

If the sun's shining where you are, please speak now. So my human doesn't think the sun is gone for good and completely lose it.

GREETINGS FROM THE LITTLE MICHIIGAN PUGGY TO MR VOLCANO PUGLET (smile) AND HIS COOL HUMAN AND EVERYBODY....MY HUMAN LOVES MICHIGAN FOR ALL THE COOL WATER TO DO THINGS IN AND FOR NATURES GREAT WARDROBE... ALWAYS CHANGING MY HUMAN SAYS (like my human likes to change clothes...heh they're both girls). FOG COMES HERE TOO, EARLY SOME MORNINGS ALONG WITH CROAKING FROGS AND SONG BIRDS IN ALL THE TREES...THE SPOOKINESS IS KIND OF A PAIN AND I HAVE TO WEAR A SWEATER SOMETIMES (i get to change clothes too!)...BUT ITS REALLY NICE WHEN IT CLEARS OFF WHEN MY HUMAN SAYS OUR GOOD CANADIAN FRIENDS SEND SOME "GOOD CLEAR AIR" TO "WISK" AWAY ALL THAT FOG....NICE AND CLEAR. OH WELL...IT'S ALL GOOD STUFF...YOU ALL HAVE A 'GOOD STUFF DAY'....PUGGY

Puglet,
Mocha and latte here! We live in Illinois and the sun is for sure not gone! It's like 96 here! It's so hot and humid!! We don't get to do anything fun here either! The second we go outside we want to go back in! We will be happy to give you our sun!
<3 mocha and latte!

Hi Puglet!

Molly from PA here, and my human said she'd be *more* than happy to send the 90*+ temps, and sun, to San Fran - it's sucking the life out of the whole right side of the country.

Hang in there!

Hey there Puglet...it's sunny and very hot in San Antonio, Texas going to be 100 degrees today. The heat bugs make this screaming noise that hurts our ears and sun bakes the sidewalks and roads...way to hot for our puggy paws. We never wear cool sweaters like you do, sweaters and HOT don't mix. But we do have a baby pool in the back yard under a tree, we go swimming whenever we want cause our human got brains and put in a puggy door. Heat on in a car... what's that?? Ellie, Emmitt and Eli

I once heard of a light that people use to simulate sun light when they were lacking, maybe your human needs one of those Puglet?

Hi Puglet. I've been following your (mis)adventures for a while now but I never left a comment. Well, this post will prompt me to do so! We live in St. Louis and let me tell'ya, it's hot here. Yesterday it was 100 degrees - in the shade. Maybe if you blow hard enough you can send some of this fog over here to cool us down! By the way, we went to Purina Farms here in St Louis over the weekend and saw some dogs performing some amazing tricks. Some of them even know how to fly! Go check it out on my blog...

You're right about this being perfect pug weather. This has been the best summer of our lives. One year before you were born, we had a 2 & a half week heat wave where it was over 100 degrees even at night it was still in the 90s. That was miserable, especially for heat sensitive pugs. Tell your human to take you to the East Bay if she needs to warm up & enjoy the sun. We could call Miley & Boka, and have an enjoy the sun play day. The sun is out there sometimes it just hides.

Hey Puglet,

Usually my Mom leaves a comment, but I snuck on her computer while she wasn't looking (I usually jump up to look for food, but your blog-thingy looked really interesting). I'm actually not a pug, but a dachshund (I look like a long tasty hotdog but please don't try and eat me). It's too bad that you melt in hot temperature, I LOVE it! I have basically no hair on my body, and freeze at temperatures below 86 degrees (I tried to convince my mom to get a heated blanket like dutch but she said that's ridiculous for a 9lb dog so I usually just sleep next to her all the way under the covers for body warmth). I hope the fog leaves so that you can go out and play!

Maybe talk to you soon if I can sneak up to the computer again...

puglet, we would love to see you here in Fl. But GOODNESS GRACIOUStell that crazy human don't even venture here until late Oct. We puggies and some of our humans)do the hypernation thing here during the summer. Some times it gets so hot we have to play in the Indoor swimming pool.

No sun here, Puglet! My human says that this is the way summer is here on the Monterey Penninsula. She likes it because she melts in the hot. (I think she's part puggie.) I don't really like the fog because it is so thick here it feels like rain-- I hate the rain! Despite being a black puggie, I LOVE to lie in the sun and get all toasty! She promises that in another month or so the weather will get "really nice." We'll see.... In the meantime, I hope you find the sun. Tell it I said hi.

Six words for fog: ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha. We like fog because it comes in on little cat feet. Sorry Puglet, but we amuses easily.

Puglet, Mookie here. I'd be more than happy to sends you some of our sun. It's so hot out I can't go to the park. I just get to go around town while I do my business. To make matters worse, they brought me to the dogtor and she said I have something called hot spot on my head! They had to shave my head and now I have to take these icky pills and have cream put on the spot.

Puglet, I am feelin' your human's pain. It is cold where I live (Southbay) and it shouldn't be! I don't mind hot weather too much because my humans fuss over me to help me cool off ;-) and I can go play in my pool. But this fog???? I can't seem to get warm.

Puglet,

The sun is definitely out in Missouri! It's been over 90 for weeks!

My wee pug is still to wee to be out and about around the big doggies and possible sicky stuff so she is happily enjoying my A/C.

We both want to come to where it is cool and rainy.

Oh Puglet! It would be great to see you visit Florida but I have to agree with couchpugs. The weather in San Francisco sounds mighty fine comparing to the Florida weather we have here. Yes it is true we have sunshine 24/7 but the humidity really kills us pugs. We're lucky to have a couple rain storms so we could go out because we usually stay home because of the heat and humidity. You are lucky to have cool fog over there in San Francisco. We rather be in the cool rainy weather than the humid sunny.

Hey Puglet, Pearl and Tessa here, in sunny Auburn. Normally this time of the year it would be "hot hot", just been "hot" lately,(mom says that is probably related to your fog) bearable (pugable?). We get fog sometimes, but not in the summer. Mom keeps the air on for us at 75..so we are pretty comfy.

Crabbie Chris said...

Well, you can head over the bridge, there's sun here in the east bay. Mom and I are working on a park that has no wood chips, but it's pretty common. Our favorite park (Spencer and I) has mostly grass, a little bit of chips. We'd love some Pug and Dutch time! Mom says she's happy it's so cold, normally it's too hot for pugs this time of year. I gues we should enjoy this, before rain comes back.

Anonymous said...

Pearl and Tessa again...Noodle, our mom lived down by you for 20 years...she is getting cold thinking about it!

Crabbie Chris said...

Oh I forgot...if you can be around a little bit of wood chips, maybe you can come play. I'm not sure though, I remember how much you like to eat those things! 2 blogs worth Pug! Don't you know there are some sexy pugs to play with instead of chips?? We'd love to have you come play with us (tht's me and Spencer) and maybe we can get Phantom again. He's hot!!

Hey Puglet,
I think our moms are planning something fun for us. I heard my mom talking about Dalmatians and Pugs and food and water and no fog. When I asked she would not tell me what was going on. If I find out more I will let you know.

hey puglet, just pop over to the east bay or head down the peninsula a bit (though it's been more chilly and gray there this summer too). i used to live in the city and work a bit down south, and it is amazing how drastically the weather changes once you get past SFO.

Humidity? Hot Hot Hot? I had no idea. I thought we were just missing the sun.

It is 57 degrees here right night and the sky is grey like it is before the sun wakes up. The weather says it will be 61 later if/when the sun comes. That's as close to HOT HOT HOT as we're getting. For the next week, 61 degrees.

This is what the beach looks like:

I used to live in Florida, and this is the time of year you don't even want to be there! Walking outside makes you sweat immediately. You guys just keep cool and visit Florida later in the Fall. Trust me, the sun will still be there. Much love for the Puglet!

Sunny Southern California is sunny almost everyday! My person loves it except she is stuck inside with a knee injury. I try to keep her entertained...it's hard work, but a pug's work is never done. If she could only get into the kitchen to get me a cookie! I'm sure I'll get lots of cookies when she is on her feet again. I'm sure there are lots in my cookie bank account!

Hey Pearl! Hey Tessa!
Yeah, it's pretty chilly here. I was just riding around in the car with my human and we had the windshield wipers ON! Like ON on! Then, we watch the news and the map thingy of the whole rest of the country is red as in HOT red. That's when my human says, "That's why I live here." Sheesh... Fortunately, I wear a hoodie sweatshirt to keep warm.
Say hi to the sun for me. Tell it I miss it!

Hey Puglet - we'll trade you some nice 60 degree weather for our hot, humid and nasty 90+ degrees any day! It's been a horrible summer w/hardly any rain. The grass is dead, some shrubs are dying off and the poor cucumber plants in the garden never had a chance. Our pool temp is hoovering at 90 degrees as well, not very refreshing. Please send us some nice San Fran Fog...

Stubby said...

Hi Puglet! It's hot as heck here and humid too. Mom's fro is like ten feet high and she's sweating like a pig. Pretty picture, huh?

Please tell the fog to go away or I will turn the car around and go back home. Fog means no playing and no playing means there will be nothing to do but stay home and eat. Oops! Did I say that out loud? Bring on the fog!

Stubby xoxo

Hey Puglet,
I'll take your fog and trade you my smog. There's nothing worse than hot & humid with a bad air quality index. We were in the triple digits for a few weeks. It was so stiffling that my human waited until midnight to water the plants outside and worst of all, no walks at any hour! But today it's in the 80s and the sun is shining, so even our polluted lake looks good. Besides, when you live in a big city where its all concrete, concrete and more concrete, you really need a blue sky and lots of light.
San Fran seems like such a pretty place that it doesn't matter whether the sun shows up or not.

THE PUGLET said...

OK, so it sounds like cold and foggy beats hot and humid. And anything is better than smog (ick). I'll try to convince my human :)

PS> Mel, my human has one of those special lights! She usually only needs it in the winter, but it's been plugged in the past few weeks. The thing is SO bright - it looks like a UFO landed in our living room or something.

Hot and Humid here in PA, Puglet...my Pugs don't like it at all! But soon it will fall and GORGEOUS...sunny with beautiful leaves to chase! Take care in all that fog!
