LUMBERJACK

My human says she doesn't have the energy these days to make us stay on the floor (I think she really just misses us) so me and Dutch are back to sleeping on her bed. It's a good thing too because Dutch really is a total bed hog and one P.L.A.Y bed is not enough when you have to share it with a spotted bed hog.

Or any bed hog, I guess.

Anyway. I was hoping my human would just forget about the whole sleeping on the floor thing, but now she has a new complaint about having dogs in her bed. And that complaint is me. Me and my snoring, I mean.

According to her, I snore like a lumberjack. I don't know what that is, but I guess me being like one wakes her up in the middle of the night. And the beginning of the night. And the end of the night. Pretty much all night long, she says.

The weird thing is, I never used to snore. And now I'm a lumberjack? Google says it might be from getting fat, but I don't think I'm that much fatter than I was before the snoring started. Weird right? Like one of those medical mystery things on TV.

Does anyone else here snore like a lumberjack? Were you born that way, or did it happen when you were, say, 2 1/2 years old and a little bit tubier than normal??

Gromit is 3 & has always snored when asleep & snorted when awake. He only weighs 17lbs so it's not a tubbiness issue. It has to do with your soft palate vibrating. Pax is 1 1/2 & doesn't snore (yet)

My 2 little grand-pugs both snore like lumberjacks and they have always been that way. Funny thing is, I love it. When they have a sleep over at grandma's and snuggle up with me, it is the best sleep EVER.

Luna doesn't really snore yet! At least not loudly.... She is only a puppy though.

We have a whole household of lumberjacks!!! Human and furry alike!!! Good luck to your mama!

Hi Puglet,
We don't snore either. Altough Eli licks his chops all night long and he farts in his sleep. Really, he farts then moves to get away from what came out of his butt. Mom complains about his farts cause he sleeps on her pillow above her head. Mom says she always knows where Ellie is in the house cause she whistles when she breaths. Emmitt sleeps like the dead, mom can pick him up and he doesn't wake up.
We pugs are just strange little critters, aren't we.
Enjoy your weekend Puglet, we're off to an agility trial. Talk to you on Monday!!

Benny the Jungle Cat sometimes snores, but it is like a soft, funny 'pew pew pew', not a lumberjack.

Apparently I sometimes snore when I take a nap and I am really, really tired. But this is just according to Mr. DMBY, and there is no real evidence!

alas, Puglet, I think it might be the tubiness. My sister's pug had progressed the same way: fatter=snorier. Maybe it's just age too?

Hi Puglett,
Mum says my snore is very loud and frequent. She claims my whole body vibrates when I snore and that icks her out. I used to snore even more when I was first rescued, but then I got plastic surgery to have my nostrils widened.
Here is the trick she has found to help quiet me, something she learned while taking a first aid class.
When my snoring gets to the really annoying stage, rolls me so I am laying fully on my side. Then she lifts my chin so my head is way back and my airways are fully open.
Most of the time, this works like a charm!
But on the rare occasion it doesn't she will lift my chin just a touch more. In extreme cases she will roll me ever so slightly until the right angle has been achieved and I fully stop.
When I was first rescued and came to live with her, I was not used to being touched and would freak out every time she tried to manipulate me like this. Now I don't even wake up most of the time.
As for the tubiness....... yes my snoring does increase when I gain weight.

Pug snuggles to you and your human alike

My human says I make more noise in my sleep than when I'm awake. I snore a little but I howl/bark/wail/mumble/chirp/growl A LOT. I thing it's a hound thing.

Kitty+Coco said...

Coco had the lumberjack snoring as a tiny pup. I'm talking BAD snoring. Mom and Dad had to wear ear plugs every night (which was convenient for me b/c I would steal them out of their ears and eat them while they slept). Anyway, Coco has actally grown out of it. Guess her nostrils grew. No she only snores if laying wrong. Trick: Coco has to sleep UNDER the covers (stifles any noise), at the bottom of the bed, at least until the rest of us are in deep sleep. No ear plugs needed now.

Hi Puglet! All three of us snore - mom says we sound like we are "sawing logs all night." Sounds lumber-y? But mom says she can't sleep without our patented "sounds of the pug ocean" so I think we're in the clear.

i asked mommy if i snore and she looked at me and said, "are you FOR REAL???"

so i guess, yes i do snore. loudly. she said that i also talk AND run in my sleep, and i'm a bed hog.

she said i didn't do it when i was littler, but started really doing it when i was about 2. so maybe it's just a getting old thing. and it was before i was so tubey...

i'm glad you're back in the bed. i hope your lumberjacking doesn't get you kicked out again.

Guilty, Puglet.

My human usually ends up in the guest room during the weeknights because she doesn't have the patience, at 11:00 pm, 1:00 am, and 3:00 am to keep flipping. Our Man snores too, usually we're in perfect harmony - it's pretty cool. Penny Lane and my human are "light sleepers", whatever, and can't deal with us.

You totally don't want to hear this, but the tubey-ness might have something to do with it ;)

Licks,
Molly in PA

PS: I totally warned you Dutch would hog your new P.L.A.Y. bed :)

Wow Puglet... this snoring like a "lumberjack" sounds like an admission of guilt to me!!

No wonder why your human doesn't sleep at nite!!!

Perhaps try reading her a bedtime story!!

Might 'da Josie suggest one -

Mister and the Gray Whisker!!

Josie Posie Pudding Pie!!

pee-s

I do not "snore" much too ladylike to do sorts of things like that... Momma says it's tacky

Pearl snores like 2 lumberjacks...you can hear her when she is downstairs and I am upstairs! She did so before she was a tubeluar as she is now. Tessa snores a little, but she definately has the farting issues in common with Eli, she also tends to fart when she barks (well, she is post menopausal). Tessa tends to sleep anywhere with her head proped up...we think its something she learned over the years to help her breathing. She is also a huge, huge bed hog. I definately have problems sleeping without them...its a sound I have grown to love.

Love the picture with Dutch's paw sticking out from under Pug.

We were checking out the Daily Puglet and looking through your humans photo gallery displayed on the side page.
Might she have a last name? Or is it like a Cher or a Madonna sort of thing?

Pug don't be ashamed of being a lumberjack, it's my school mascot after all! My niece, Izzy, is a 7-month old puglet. She snores most of the time, but very lightly. But when she is tired, like after a long day at doggy day care or from a puggy meet up, she snores. Loudly. She even got a rhinoplasty to help her breathe, and she still snores like a lumberjack! (It's kind of cute actually, even if it is really loud)

Scoutie said...

Hi P. I snore too, mostly when I'm going to sleep. I'm pretty quiet when I'm in a deep sleep. My human says for your human to try those nice soft orange earplugs that I like to chew on so much. My vet said I'm a candidate for the soft palette surgery. Does anyone out there have any words of wisdom about that? I had the nose job, but I still have kind of a hard time breathing.

P-dog! My mom says I snore but not loudly and she actually thinks it's CUTE! Something about "puppy snores being so adorable" and stuff. I think she's crazy. But she always calls me a "peanut" because I'm kind of runty, so maybe it IS because of your weight. My mom says to tell you she thinks you're SO handsome and adorable no matter what, and I think you're pretty awesome, too! Your bud, Atticus

AllyB said...

Hey Puglet, LittleDog here and I must admit I snore like a lumberjack too. I am also a bit tubbier than is considered ideal but not overly so, imo. Some nights I snore so loud I even wake myself up! Sorry to hear about your bed hog predicament, hopefully your human will figure it out soon so you can all get some good sleep.

Puglette, my mom says I snore quite often when I am sleeping next to her or on top of her (you suppose that's why she won't let me go over 25 lbs?), but it is a soothing sound to her and if I didn't she would worry and really miss it. She says "different strokes for differet folks", whatever that means. So for me, Romeo, snoring is a good thing.

SpencerBartholomew said...

Puglet... Oh, yeah, I snore! And, I have been snoring since I was a tiny pug. G-paw and I snore together... we can really make some noise! My humans think it is part of my charm?!

Yeah, my mom tells me I snore too. Usually its when i'm really tired and end up on my back with my big belly all out in the open. She says my snoring doesn't really bother her but that what does wake her up is when I bark in my sleep. No, really! Don't laugh at me, its true! She says that I must be dreaming or something like that cause my eyes are closed and I seem asleep but I start barking. Like really loud, I guess. But are you telling me that if she gets too mad about that, she might make me sleep on the FLOOR? OH. MY GOSH. I think I'd DIE!

Pugs2Luv said...

Sometimes we snore but not very often. If we're really tired then we get a little loud but our human just makes some adjustments and everything is okay. The silly thing is that our human sometimes complains about the challenges of sleeping with pugs but then when she goes away for the night she says she can't sleep without us. Silly humans.

Hi Puglet....Mack here. I'm a pretty good weight and snore so loudly that I have my own bedroom (really the home office)! My snoring can be heard all over the house, both floors.

Keep fighting for sleeping in the big bed!

Hi Puglet, I am five years old and have snored since I was seven weeks old I don't think it has anything to do with being tubby, its just a pug thing. I also weigh about nineteen pounds I small for a pug, always have been. I even make snorting sounds when I am awake too. My human say it gives me personality!!!

Daisy has always snored. It is the most comforting quiet snore though. When I hear that I know all is right with our world and I can sleep great. I wait for her to start snoring before I go to sleep! I can't sleep without that little sound.

Morning Puglet!

My Scarlet, she's 2, snores & I love it. I think it's funny. When we got her 6 months ago she was severely underweight from livin' on the streets & she snored then too. I think snoring is the sound of happiness.

P.S. I forgot to mention Scarlet is pug. The girl in my picture was my heavenly angel Nicki, she snored too.

Hi Puglet.....Frankie (the pug) from Michigan here. I have ALWAYS snored! I'm 2 1/2 and I snore sleeping and when I'm happy and when I'm upset. I LOVE TO SNORE! I especially love to snore when Daddie cradles me on my back and he rocks back and forth! I snore VERY LOUDLY then......

Sabrina said...

Hi Puglet! Beulah only snores when she is super-duper tired and when she does, she sounds like a buzz-saw! So Loud! She is a pretty small pug (14-15lbs) and has never really been tubey so I'm not sure. If she is snoring really loudly, I can usually just roll her over.

BTW, those PLAY beds are pretty sweet! Do you have the medium size? The large looks really big. Beulah and Barney have a few beds from Costco all over the house but only one in the bedroom. They usually share nicely, but if Beulah is already in it (right in the middle!), Barney just tries to settle on top of her and she has to move!

Puglet,
All my pugs snore. But the worst of the bunch is my pekingese. He's 18 years old and skinny as a rail. I seriously have to feed him all the time, vet's orders.(Drs never tell me that! LOL) So it MIGHT be from tubiness, but I think it's from age.

I only snore when I'm scrunched in a weird position on the bed, like when there are two humans in MY bed. But if it's just me and my human, I can stretch out with my head titled up, there are no snores all night long.

Barney the Pug said...

Oh, and I'm both fat and old...so I don't think those are the real reasons. Maybe your nostrils shrunk?

Chigiy Binell said...

My husband snores like a lumberjack. I tried to get him to sleep on the floor but he wouldn't. He doesn't let any of our dogs sleep on the bed so they were hoping that I could make him sleep on the floor too. So far—no luck. You might ask your human to wear earplugs sometimes that works for me. BTW, Puglet, you make me laugh.

Meiby just turned 3. She has gained a little weight in the past year or so but mostly, like you said, she's "tubier". And she's also been recently banished from the bed. Now she sleeps on her own bed just outside of our bedroom and we can still hear her snoring through the door!
