OPERATION LION RESCUE

I figured you might need a day or two to digest the Ginormous Canadian Box, so today I was going to tell you all about the crazy rain storms we're having (and how crazy it is that rain is back so soon). But when I woke up this morning the skies were totally blue so we headed straight to the beach.

Good thing for you we did too, because what happened at the beach is
way more exciting than weather. Way more. Because you see that giant blob Frank is posing with because I was too busy protecting us from a possibly life-threatening attack to pose for stupid pictures? Well, it was at the beach too. Obviously.

At first I thought the blob was a ginormous slug. Until Dutch wandered out onto the pier thing by mistake and it totally roared at him. Like ARRGHGHHH! Freaked me out. And Dutch too -- I seriously don't think he noticed the giant blob until it AAARGHGHHH'd at him.

Nobody
ARRGHGHHHs at brother Dutch but me, so I totally went into attack mode... which is when my human put me on a leash and told us all to keep walking. She said it's not cool to harass wildlife. I didn't know slugs counted as wild life, no matter how ginormous they are. But my human explained that the blob was a sea lion, not a slug. Kinda explains the roaring, I guess.

Anyway. We walked for awhile and by the time we got back to where the lion was, some people from the Marine Mammal Center had shown up. They had a giant net and a box just like the one my human makes Frank ride in because he goes crazy in the car. Except their box was bigger. Waaay bigger.

I guess the lion was sick and they were there to help him. To do that, they had to get him in the box first. That's when the leashes came out again. My human tied us to a fence so she could help the lion savers without worrying about me doing something crazy (her words).

While we stood there tied to a stupid fence, my human helped the lion savers. Her job was to sit on the box so it wouldn't move when the lion got angry. She took pictures of the rescue until they were ready for her to box sit.

For the record, it's way easier to get Frank in a box than an angry lion. It took 4 people, a net, a rope and a few big shield things to convince him to go inside.

The lion must not have known they were trying to save him because he was NOT happy about any of it. I don't think he liked the net much either.

It took awhile, but the lion savers finally got the sick lion into the box and onto a truck. I know it's been a busy week for juju but if anyone has any left to give, I think the lion could use some. I don't know his name, but he'll be staying at the Marine Mammal Center for awhile. It's on the other side of the big orange bridge - I'm sure juju will know how to find it.

Boy Puglet, Sea lions sure have had it tough this week. Yay for rescuers.

Puglet! That's an amazing adventure! You were so brave to try and save everyone from the lion. I'm glad your human was there to sit on the box. I wish we lived by a big water. The only scary stuff I ever see is kitties. And I get in trouble for trying to save the humans from them.

Whoa! That is a crazy beach adventure, Pug! I'm not sure that anyone will be able to top that soon. And I totally don't blame you trying to protect your family! Who knows what that big guy would do...he isn't feeling good after all. Thanks for sharing all the photos, they really help tell the story, although I wish there was one of Dutch stumbling upon the sea lion! I tell you what, your human's picture skills are so great...if I ever make it out to your side of the country, I'm going to have her Frolic me for sure! Anyway, I'll send some juju over the bridge to the MMC.
Love,
Payton

Hiya Noodles ~

I'm glad you like the fence picture because it totally sucked to have to stand there like that! A bunch of people did stop to pet us and some even took our pictures, but still. I wanted to be where the action was, y'know?

Pepper,

Don't tell anyone, but that lion was freaking scary. I mean, it was HUGE. And it roared at Dutch. I barked my butt off and he didn't even blink. My human got really mad, but the lion acted like I wasn't even there.

Man, you guys have some EXCELLENT adventures!! Didn't those people know that they just needed to put the Omega snacks in the box and the lion would have gotten in all by himself!! Silly humans.

I hope he feels better. We're glad he didn't eat Frank.

Hiya Payton ~

My human didn't expect Dutch to get ARRGHGHHHd at, but she did get a picture of him post-ARRGHGHHH. We just added it so you can see.

(be sure to check out his new "manly" collar)

Y'know, I usually don't like it when other dogs get near my Nikon, but I'd be totally cool with it for you :)

Puglet,
That's so cool that your human was able to help the sea lion rescuers (he looks really sad in that close up photo). I never get to see anything that exciting on my walks- just fat raccoons and nervous squirrels. We'll definitely send some juju to that guy!

Dang, Puglet. You and your human have the most amazing adventures! The most interesting part of my mom's day was watching her 8th grade students balance pencils on their faces...

She's thinking that SF looks pretty good!

What an exciting adventure, Puglet! The sea lion sure looks sad. I'm glad the mammal people were able to rescue him so quickly with the help of your human's box-sitting abilities and your supervisory skills. Well done!
I'm sending him some juju for a speedy recovery so he can join his friends at Pier 39! ;)

I really like Dutch's new paisley collar! Very stylish! Was that in the GCB?

Puglet,

All I can say is my mom thinks you, your human, Dutch and Frank are completely and totally awesome! She said helping save the lion will bring you all some really great karma; whatever that is.
I think you're awesome too.

Love Lucy

Hi Pug,
Wow, you tried to go poodle on the lion. First it was a mountain lion, now a sea lion. You are so brave!

Hugs,
Suki

Sabrina said...

Puglet, are you sure the reason you went poodle wasn't just because of the AARGHing and maybe was a teensy tiny bit because you were jealous that he was getting so much attention from Nikon?

Puglet, how awesome of all of you guys to help rescue the sick sea lion. I sent lots of juju to him. My human says you must visualize the *outcome*, or see them happy, healthy, whole, which I just did!!

Glad you and your posse came upon the scene to help out!! Maybe your barking was even some kind of distress signal for the seal?? (or maybe you were a little scared)? lol

PS Dutch *is* looking rather manly with his new collar. Dutch always has a regal look about him : )

What a great adventure! Your human deserves a cookie or two even for helping out the lion savers. I couldn't imagine how scary it would be sit on the box while an angry lion is thrashing around inside. I'm sending lots of JuJu it's way hoping he gets well enough to be released back into the wild real soon.
That picture of Dutch (and his manly collar) is great. He looks quite traumatized.

Sabrina

That is soooo super cool that your human got to be a part of a sea lion rescue!!!! aaaand how cool that you guys got to see the big slug up close.

Wow!!!!! What a great day, and great shots!

What a great adventure! I am happy your human could help the rescuers. We will be sending out lots of juju for the lion. You should write a book of all your adventures!

THE PUGLET said...

Heya Ollie,

We had a human-sized raccoon outside our house the other day. Seriously. Waaaaaay scarier than the angry lion. Will tell everyone about that tomorrow!

THE PUGLET said...

Hi Gosia ~

Huge thanks for the fat polish juju! I know the angry lion needs all the juju he can get and I think international juju counts double.

THE PUGLET said...

Uh, you're right Scoutie. Pencil-balancing doesn't sound very exciting.

THE PUGLET said...

Heya EMP III!

You're right, the lion does look sad. My human thought he was just loving the warm sun, but when dogs barked at him and he didn't move, she thought he might be sick

(Dutch was the only one who got ARRGGGHed at, even though he totally didn't bark or do anything to the lion)

Oh. And I got Dutch his new man-collar for his Big 8. It's not 100% manly, but at least it's not pink!

THE PUGLET said...

Hi Lucy ~

I don't know what karma is either, but your comment made my human smile so it must be a good thing :)

THE PUGLET said...

You know it Suki! I totally would have gone poodle on that lion, but my human kinda went poodle on me before that could happen. Once the leash comes out, it's all over.

THE PUGLET said...

Hi Sabrina ~

Uh, Google says I should take the 5th and just say 'no comment'. So, no comment. But you're not 100% wrong :/

THE PUGLET said...

Hi Mama Monster ~

Y'know a giant slug/angry lion is just like a normal sized slug - except normal slugs don't ARRRRGHHH at innocent dalmatians.

It *was* really cool to be there for a real lion rescue operation. Even if I was tied to a pole for most of it.

THE PUGLET said...

Heya Spencer B!!!

Dude! It's been like ages (is ok, I know your human is crazy busy). Thanks for sending the lion your good juju, he's really big & probably needs a bunch of it.

Suzy said...

Wow-what a cool adventure! Thanks to your mom for helping save the seal lion!

And is Frank your permanent brother or just a friend? I'm new around here xoxo

Puglet, Great adventure story. My human catches slugs in shells. She feeds them salt. She calls them snails. I wonder if that giant slug had a giant shell somewhere. We are sending ju-ju for that slug/lion, so he can go back home.
We live in Gladstone, Oregon and we first heard about you from a poster on craigslist a long, long time ago. We never miss reading about your adventures and all the comments the great people make. We even go on craigslist sometimes and tell people to read about you too.
Love the picture of the three of you tied to the post, but we love all the pictures.
Pug hugs from the pug pack, Phoebe, Kizzy, Dutchy and Olita (and Max who is not a put LOL)

Hi Suzy,

Welcome to the DP! Frank's just temporary. He stays with us sometimes, when his people go out of town. I'd love to have a pug brother though. I love Dutch and all, but he refuses to face-wrestle like a pug.

Loving the pic of the Motley Crew group pic. I know you were on high alert in case the sick lion got out of hand. You always get to see cool stuff...Sigh.
