OK. First I have to say how awesome you all are for filling my special-day with soooo many happy birthdays! Totally made Birthday #2 the BEST birthday ever. Even with the stupid cone hat.
You might be wondering if I did anything extrasuperspecial on my birthday (other than open presents and eat) and why you haven't heard anything about it until now. Well, I did. And it kept me away from the computer for a few days. Because what we did was far, far away from any computer.
What we did was camping!
Yup. My human surprised me with a trip to the wilderness, to a place called Tahoe. It's where we went to visit the snow last Christmas (more on that later) and is my #1 other favorite place to be (SF is my main #1 favorite place). I got to hike tall mountains and swim in water that's clearer than the stuff that comes out of the faucet at home.
We saw a ton of nature, including 9 deers, 1 marmot, 5 bunnies, too many bees to count, a gazillion baby frogs and a dead porkypine. Dutch swears he either saw or heard a bear, but isn't sure which so I don't 100% believe him. We ran through giant fields of pretty, smelly flowers and played keep-away with pinecones bigger than my head.
Seeing nature is cool, but becoming part of it is even cooler. Sleeping under the stars, never having to wear a leash, not eating from a babyblue polka dotted bowl that says "STUD" on the bottom of it - that's what I call living. And even though we were only gone a few days, I'm pretty sure part of me totally returned to the wild.

Lucky you, Puglet! That sounds like a wonderful trip!
Oh puglet, you were up in our neck of the woods! I thought I had heard a buzz around here about some important bigwig being around...
Pearl
It sounds like you had a great time. We love the shot of you swimming - the water is so clean. We go camping all the time, but we go in our motorhome. The Sierra's are our favorite. We love campfires, hikes, lakes and the animals. Mom calls us "all-terrain pugs", because we just hike and wade (we DON'T swim) all day.
Our big brother Puck "didn't" see a bear a long time ago on a hike - mom saw it, but luckily he wasn't looking that direction. They hustled out of there. Deer and chipmunks are fun. Bear, not so much.
We hope you get to go camping again.
Arnie & Gracie, the agility pugs
Oh Puglet, Happy Belated Birthday. You did such happy things. We love Tahoe too. All of your picture memories are just beautiful. My Forever Mom & Dad just got home from Yosemite. We didn't get to go on this trip. I think they were kinda happy to be able to go for a walk without poop bags hanging out of their shorts. Thank you for sharing your great awesome life with all of us. Every day we read your blog we feels like we are getting a gift from you. Wow, that's like having a birthday EVERY day. I kinda like that idea! Love, Tink
Wow Pug-you did so much for your birthday! It looks like a ton of fun, and you swim so well. Mom says her idea of "roughing it" is not staying on property when she goes to Disneyland...so she would never dream of taking me camping. I don't think I mind though, not sure if I would be as brave as Brother Dutch when it comes to bears.
Puglet, you are so photogenetic.
Hey Everybody!
The wilderness was *awesome* but it's supergood to be back here.
Arnie & Gracie ~ my human calles me a "sports model" pug, but I think I like "all-terrain" much better. Everyone always thinks it's weird that I'm a pug and I swim, so don't feel bad about just wading. I think that's more pugly.
Tink ~ my human gripes about poop bags in her camera bag. Is that better or worse than in shorts? I've never been to Yosemite either. My human says don't aren't allowed in the wilderness in Yosemite, so I don't think we're alone.
Pearl ~ next time we go tot the widerness we'll send you a smoke signal or something, You can come play in the woods too :)
BellaT! ~ Dutch wants to know if he can come live with you. He HATES camping. Hates it. Says he'd rather go to the vet for a million anal gland cleanings than spend just one night in the "dirty, scary woods". Weirdo.
Awww, thanks KF :) I'll remind my human and maybe she'll start feeding me cookies again.
That is so cool. We love the picture of you swimming in that crystal clear water. We have to admit, we are a bit jealous - we have never been camping before. Glad you had a good birthday!!

Hello Puglet it is nice to meet you! We are new followers to your blog, and we can't wait to read more! Camping is so fun, we all love to go camping, especially when we get to see wild life at its best. If you get a chance, check us out at www.lifewith5dogs.com
Your New Friends,

Hi Puglet,
Your camping trip sounds pawsome. If you don't mind sharing the specifics, my mom would love to know where you camped, hiked and played (she says she has a hard time finding dog-allowed off leash places).
Thanks!
-Tobee
Hi Yoda & Brutus ~
Yeah, the water in Tahoe is crazy clear. Like how you can see the bottom of the lake? The water was pretty deep too - past my human's waist and she is really really tall.
Hi 5 dogs :)
Forget camping, I think life with five dogs sounds way more fun. I'll send my human to your blog - maybe it'll inspire her to add another pug member to our family :)
oh my gosh!
what a wonderful celebration!
happy happy birthday puglet!
:) melissa & emmitt
Crystal clear waters = good. Camping under the stars (and away from Air Conditioning)= BAD. Nuh uh. Not these girls. Can we live vicariously through you? Thanks.
Kitty and Coco (the indoor girls)
Hi Tobee!
My human says we camped in the middle of nowhere off of the Pacific Crest Trail near Donner Summit. I said we were in Tahoe because more people have heard of it, but we were really just near Tahoe, in a place called Truckee. I guess my human used to live there or something.
All the mountain trails are off-leash, but there are lots of non-hikey places too. Our favorites are Martis Creek (lots of streams to play in and drink) and Prosser Meadow (that's the picture of me with the purple flowers).
The lake I swam in is Donner Lake (dogs can swim in Lake Tahoe too - Homewood has a good beach - but the water there is still VERY cold). The end of Donner Lake that's in Donner State Park is supposed to be on-leash, but it's totally the local off-leash dog beach. It's a 2 minute walk from the secret side entrance where you don't have to pay to get in (you'll see lots of cars - it's totally legal and really not-so-secret).
Dutch says he refuses to go camping ever again, maybe you can take his place next time??
Kitty and Coco (the indoor girls) ~
Dutch agrees 100%.
Puglet, you are wild at heart! Never have a heard of such a pug who loves the outdoors so much. I'm glad you had such an extensive, awesome birthday!
You look like you had a great time this weekend. We love the outdoors too but we prefer sleeping indoors after a day of fun outdoors. We think that's why pug were the companions of royalty & why ruin a good pug tradition? At least that's our story & we're sticking to it. Dutch, can stay with us next time you guys go camping. We live close to Miley & Boka & wouldn't mind taking him to see them for some Dalmatian-bonding time. Anyway Puglet you are definitely setting the trend for the next generation of pugs: Generation Pug. We love it.
Zoey & Phoebe
Even closer to our neck of the woods...we are near Auburn, you probably drove right by on your way! Lucky for you that you were up there yesterday, it was way too hot for us little puggies around here! Our human took us to the dog park at 7:00 and we just wilted...way too hot - but we both got in the pool and that helped.
Pearl and Tessa
The last time our human took us camping it was 4 of July and we did not like the nasty fireworks that some people were showing off! But we loved hanging out in the water. Our Human's favorite picture is us in a inner tube!
You go Puglet!
Hi Puglet! Dude, you live the most exciting life. I don't do anything or go anywhere. I'm seriously thinking about driving out to Cali to live with you. You don't think your human (or Dutch) would mind, do you?
That camping stuff looks seriously fun. I could totally get into life off leash but you can keep the lake all to yourself. Just let me take in the fresh air and we're all good.
Stubby xoxo
Happy Birthday Puglet! And a very merry un-birthday to Dutch :) We pugs have camping envy. Mom won't take us because up in Seattle, there are forest creatures who might see us more like Vienna sausages. Mom wants to know if you camped in a tent or in a cabin... but glad you had a superfun birthday (and unbirthday)!
Wonderful pictures!! I wish I could do the camping thing, but I love indoor bathrooms and AC too much. Glad you guys had a good time.
Ann & Frodo
Thanks for the details, mom says we'll add this to our list of places to check out (thanks to you blogging your adventures, I have met and played with your cow friends and played at Pt Isabelle too).
And, YES! if Dutch wants to stay home next time, mom says I can go in his place, just name the day =)
Mom used to take zoe to a dogcamp in tahoe called camp winnaribbun, and says there is a really neat place called Grass Lake Meadow, where the meadow is really a bog, and feels like a giant sponge underneath your feet. (from Hwy 50 to Hwy 89 and drive to Luther Pass and park on the side of the road)
-Tobee
Oh Puglet!!
What a cool trips yous went ons!!
Pretty pix too!!
Pee-S
what ya eating in da zip lock bag??? (hee hees)
xoxoxo,
Josie
Woof! Woof! You had such a Fabulous Celebration. PAWSOME. COOL!!! Lots of Golden Woofs, Sugar
How awesome Puglet! My mom hasn't taken me camping yet...I'd love to do some hiking in the wilderness and take a big poo in the woods! Too many trees to mark though, I'm sure!
OMG how fun!!!!! We are super jealous!!! We are going camping out in Zion UT in early Sept. Can't wait!!!!
Glad you enjoyed your #2 bday!
XO,
Lola
You know Puglet, you look like a pug, but you certainly don't act like one. I'm waiting for the day when your Mom posts a picture of you unzipping the pug suit and out climbs the Labrador. You'll have to change the name of the blog to The Daily Lablet!
Ellie, Bogie and Gertie ~
Uhm, 'forest creatures'??? You mean like the imaginary bear Dutch may or may not have seen and/or heard?
A meadow that feels like a giant sponge underneath your feet? Cool! Martis Creek meadow in Truckee is made out of something strange that makes a galloping noise when you run on it. Together, me and Dutch sound like a herd of wild rhinoceroses. It's very cool.
Lola, my human says "ooooooooooooh" to Zion. She loves Utah as much as Dutch hates camping.
YES! The Daily Lablet! Wilma you are so right - I have a very big inner Labrador. I'm gonna see if my human will let me change my name to Lablet :0)
Very cool Puglet! I want to hide in your suitcase next time you go! Apparently my human aunt's inlaws have a vacation home near Tahoe...but they told my pawrents that if they're visiting it has to be without me. :( Those sound like such cool places! I think Mommy and I are going to try convincing Daddy to take a roadtrip.
