FFF: Optical Illusions

If you've never seen an optical illusion before, don't feel bad. I'd never seen one either until my human showed me this picture of a little tiny Dutch standing next to a great big giant scooter thing.

Just in case you've never seen a scooter before either, here's a totally humiliating picture of me standing on one. As you can see, there's nothing great big or giant about it.

Now. I was there when my human took that picture of Dutch. And I know, for a fact, that the scooter thing (technical term: Vespa) was not ridiculously huge. Dutch didn't shrink just for the picture either. Apparently that's what an optical illusion is all about - making things look different than they really are.

Optical illusions can also make your head look very big, like in this picture of Lily.

Or give you huge feet and very long legs. Like a labrador.

Optical illusions are pretty cool - but they can also be a little scary. Because they are totally capable of turning a big freaky fish into a GINORMOUS freaky fish that could swallow a pug whole. In one gulp. Without chewing (if fish even chew).

If you're wondering what sort of crazy camera voodoo made all this happen, I think it has something to do with the lens my human used and the way she used it. I kinda wish there was a way to make optical illusions real. Not the freaky giant fish (that would be superscary) but having a pug-sized Dutch would almost be like having a real pug brother.

Just think how big the camera could make your food look!!! Or make your waist look thinner!

Hi Puglet! Your human is so super smart! She has this photography thing down pat and I bet she could even be a professional photographer.

You look so cool with huge feet and super long legs. It looks like you're on stilts.

Aw, Puglet, you want someone your own size to play with, like Frank! What funny tricks your human plays with the camera.

Puglet, We hope your human is not showing you optical delusions to keep you from closing the case on dog shooting. If she is on the up-and-up then you have just learned that we see as much with our brains, however gimpy, as we do with our eyes. Try putting your paw over the moon sometime; what you will see is real from your perspective (they use those to look through on submarines) and you can pretend to crush the moon, but please do not really crush it because it is nice and you might need it some night when and if Gracie the Bulldog or Jenny the Pug want a romantic evening. Even though we be Cool Cats, we like our canine friends, Puglet and Dutch. Bye.

Puglet,
My human loves the photo of you in your blue sweater on the red scooter. She says you look very sophisticated and very European. I wouldn't know, the furthest I've ever travelled is to dog camp where we spend all day trying to get as dirty as possible in mud holes and looking for smelly, dead things in the woods. Good times!

Hi Ollie!

I'll take mud holes and smelly dead things over sweaters and scooters ANY day. Let me know if you ever want to trade humans :)

Those are some very deep thoughts you have - what we see Vs what we think we see? Cats must be superintellectuals - that's way too much thinking for a dog. I'll try to pretend to crush the moon next time I see it.

We love the idea of a pug-sized Dutch. He's so much fun to play but sometimes we feel like we're talking to his chest &/or butt. It would be nice to talk to him face-to-face. Optical illusions are cool.

P.S. We see nothing humiliating about your picture on the scooter. It's supercute

Yes, Puglet, you do look very European. All you need in that picture is a French hat, called a beret. Very European. Looks like you can pick up chicks on that scooter (pug chicks, that is). That's also a very Italian thing. You're very worldly, Puglet. Wee wee (oui oui)

So... are European pugs cuter than American pugs? If yes, then I'll try to be European more often :)

PS> Dutch is technically European because he was born in that Netherlands place. He says Euro-dogs are way cuter, but I'd like a second opinion.

Anything for the sake of cute(er)ness you'll try Puglet. You're all about that (cuteness=camera=cookies). The Euro-thing could go either way. There are some countries over there known for a kind of sophisticated flair.

Wikipedia just said that although you have Chinese origins, you were popularized by the House of Orange of the Netherlands, and the House of Stuart of England, Ireland and Scotland. So what's funny is you and Dutch have a tiny historical connection. As far as the cuteness thing . . . I wouldn't be concerned (as we know thoughts about cuteness can leave you up at night). You pretty much have the mark down on that one.

Dutch is just trying to use his European ties to make you jealous. Of course you are just about the cutest pug on the internet I've seen. In fact, I kinda cyber-stalk you, I think : }
