HOME ALONE

I still haven't gotten to the bottom of the strange dog smells on my human. But now she's doing something else that's bugging me even more.

She used to be home with us pretty much all day. She was always busy staring at the computer, so it's not like she played with us or anything. But she was here. With us. And that's all that matters.

Lately she's been leaving us alone during the day for like HOURS at a time and it makes me really uncomfortable. Ok... it makes me sad. Brother Dutch says I should just chill and take a nap. But I think he's just saying that because it's what we normally do and he doesn't believe in change.

ME: Don't you want to wait for her to come home?
DUTCH: We can wait in our sleep.
ME: But.. uh..
DUTCH: You wait if you want. I'm going to nap.

So now whenever my human leaves, Dutch sleeps and I wait. I wait by the door. I wait by the window. I wait on the rug in the room where she used to stare at the computer all day.
I wait because I'm afraid her gimpy brain might forget all about us. And I wait because I miss her when she's gone.

Does anyone else's human do this kind of thing?? If yes, do you wait like I do, or nap like Dutch? Is there anything we can do to make her come home faster?

Hi Puglet! Mom and Dad used to do this kind of thing. At first I would wait by the door but after I realized they would be gone for a long time (like all day), I decided to nap. Dutch is right - don't waste all your energy waiting. Chill out and nap.

Your human's brain may be gimpy but I doubt she would ever forget about you. I know you miss her when she's gone and wonder when she'll be back, but she will be back.

This is horrible Puglet! What the hells bells is your mom doing these days?

This is almost as frustrating as following the balloon boy on the news!

I agree with Stubby, as gimpy as our human's brain may be, it'd be totally impossible for your mom to forget you.

Our human does the same thing! I waits on the couch ocrner facing the door, my sister Tuni waits in her little fluff bed. She falls asleep but I don't give her crap she is older than dirt. We have no idea how to make them get home sooner. Let us know is you do.

Good morning Puglet!
My mom does this every day- we walk in the dark, go home for breakfast, then she leaves.... for all day. She has a gimpy brain, too, but she always remembers to come home. Then it's all about me! Another walk in the dark, and a cookie!
I think she spoils me more on days that she has to leave- feels guilty or something. Guilt= more cookies!
Maybe your mom is going to some place called 'the office' like my mom. I think that's where they get money to buy toys and treats... life's better with toys and treats.

I wait all day. While I wait I nap, play with Jasper (the cat), and my favorite...play with things I'm not allowed to play with while anyone else is home.

Sweet Puglet,
Our human does this all the time! It is very troublesom for us to have to wait for her to come back to us. Sometimes it feels like she will never come home, especially when it gets dark early. But, we have eachother to us keep company; like you & Dutch. Our human goes every day to a place called a food bank (which sounds like a perfect place for a pug, if you ask me)to give food to those who don't have any. That sounds terrible! She says that food banks everywhere are running out of food, so if anybody has food or money to share any food bank would greatly appreciate it. (I tried to give some of our cookies but she says that humans don't eat them. Crazy, huh.)
Don't worry Puglet. Do whatever gets you through the day until your human gets home; wait by the door, nap, play...whatever. I'm sure she has a good reason for leaving you & Dutch alone. Her brain might be gimpy, but her heart is strong. You guys are a part of her heart, & the heart always wants to go home.

Love always, Zoey, Yoda & Phoebe

Puglet, all humans are kind of gimpy. Why else would they do silly things like go to work or take a shower? Even though they lack our good dog sense, they always manage to find their way back home, especially when a couple of special guys like you and Dutch are waiting.
To pass the time, think about some of your special moments: eating Popeye's chicken, baby cow poop, running on the beach with Dutch, rolling on a dead seal. You get the idea.
I always like to take a moment every day to fondly remember my favourite sniffs and chews & dream about the ones to come.

Puglet don't worry. I have a feeling you'll find out what's going on very soon. Dutch is right, take a nap and the time will pass quickly.

my momma goes out for a few hours at a time but she always comes back. i dont have a 'crate' i have a thing called an 'x-pen' which is much bigger. since i get into lots of trouble i'm not allowed to be free when momma leaves. so i stay in my x-pen and take a nap or chew on a rawhide. but when i hear the keys in the door i perk up and put on my saddest face to make her feel bad for leaving. she doesn't know i was perfectly fine while she was gone. so my advice to you is listen to dutch- take a nice nap but then put on your saddest face when she comes home. it leads to way more cookies and cuddles and who knows, maybe she'll bring you more nuggets even on a regular day!

Dear Puglet, My Daddy AND Mommy leave me from the time Golden Girls comes on until the 4:00 news. I use the time to catch up on my "shows," snooze on my pink blanky, and chew on my kong. Then, when my family gets home, I'm well rested for LOTS of playing, cuddles, treats, and "good girls." Dutch is right, sleep it off! Pug Hugs, Las Vegas Lola

Puglet, my mom and dad are home most of the time but when they do leave I like to take a nap in a box just inside the house. When my humans return they say, "Pug in a box!" And they laugh and cuddle me lots. And my job is done.

Another fun thing to do while the humans are gone is boss around my brother Mohjoh. He's a big giant Shar Pei (though Mom says he thinks he's a Lab!). Moh is older than me but I'm the Pug! Mom says I'm the boss of her and she's the boss of the house so that makes me everyone's boss!

But mostly napping is good. Dutch is right.

Thanks for sharing your adventures, Puglet. My mom reads your stories out loud to us all everyday. You're the best!

WOW.

I had NO idea so many humans did the disappearing thing! I thought my human was being weird, but maybe she's finally being normal??

You all teach me so much about life and how to live it...

I'm totally going to do the sad-face/guilty thing from now on. If my human is going to leave me, I really should get some cookies out of it.

I'm also going to think about good things like Popeyes and cow pies and dead seals. And if my human isn't home by the time I'm done thinking, I'll nap.

Thanks for helping me understand my human better! I don't feel so alone anymore.

This is a late response, Puglet, but I just wanted to let you know that us humans don't really like to disappear--most of us would rather stay with you! My pug, Beulah, naps all day like Dutch but my lab, Barney, waits all day by the door and that makes me sad. So I definitely think your human would prefer if you napped instead of waiting. Maybe you'll dream of eating Popeye's at the beach!
