LIKE YAO MING... OR OPRAH

When I got an email last week from Illinois-Missouri pug rescue about raising money to get a pug named Moochi a new snout, I was superexcited to chip in. I'm glad we were able to donate a little money, and I know our donation helped... but I wanted to help more. Give more.

But how?

Well. Thanks to my bud Stubby, I think I might have an idea. In case you missed it, last week Stubby blogged about a basketball player named Yao Ming who's using his fame to keep sharks out of soup. So.... what if I was famous like Yao Ming?
Or, uh, Oprah?

If I was famous, I could raise loads of money to help pugs in need. I could put my pawprint on stuff and sell it on eBay. I could do appearances and let people pet me for a dollar. Humans love to pet me, I bet I could raise a ton of money that way.

And you all could be famous with me. Y'know, like an entourage or whatever.
Pretty good idea, huh? I'm just not sure how to do it. I asked Google and got some really useless advice:

- Be the worst at something

- Identify urgent or dire needs of people and exploit them
- Contact famous people and ask them to help you
- Get a life (if you don't have one you can't be famous)

I guess maybe that stuff could help humans get famous, but I'm a pug. I need pug-friendly ways. Like winning eating contests or, uh...

Any ideas??

Your Pug articles and pictures are amazing, we love them! We would also love you to introduce the Pug breed to the world in our Breed Info Challenge!

Hey Pug, how about putting together a collection of your human's awesome pictures of you and making a calendar? You could donate the profits to help pugs in need. You would gain fame to help pugs BY helping pugs!

Just a thought,

Puglet...are you an artist? I have heard that elephants paint pictures then sell them. Maybe you and Dutch could paint pictures using your paws then sell them on this blog...or link us to an ebay site etc. I know I would love to buy one. I totally think your mommy takes awesome pictures...what about having her take pictures of us cute pugs of the world...my mom would soooo pay her to take pictures of me. Mom thinks I'm adorable and would love to have even more pictures of me. When I think of more ideas I'll send them your way.
P.S. I think you, Dutch and your mom are awesome for wanting to help pugs in need.

Maybe you could sponsor a tournament or event, using your celebrity and charm to get people to contribute and attend?

Thank you for helping out needy pugs. I was in the pound over Christmas, when PugPROS came and rescued me. I have a pug rescue sister, a pug mix rescue brother, and a boxer rescue sister. We all wouldn't be here if it wasn't for rescues and the people that support them.

We like the calendar idea - who wouldn't love to have you on their calendar!?

My human says we could totally do a calendar... but I'm not sure many people would buy one. I guess maybe if we did something extrasuper cool, it wouldn't matter that I'm not famous?

Sponser an event? Hmmm. Like... an eating contest? Or napping marathon? The pug-o-lympics?!?

I've never tried to paint, Bellatrix. Sounds like something I should try! My human said she tried to teach brother Dutch to paint, but he's kinda, uh, slow? I bet I could toally do it!!

A calendar WOULD sell! You'd go viral, once the word started getting out.

There's all kinds of events. Our pug club puts on a fashion show for rescue. Maybe you could add your celebrity to the event to help promote it?

You could totally paint - it would be a lot of fun.

ohhh...I love the calendar idea. my mom helped me put one together for grandma's christmas present and it was a huge hit! I also like the event idea, like a pay for play thing. I know some shelters have play areas big enough to hold lots of pugs, our parents could pay for us to do a play group. Like per hour type thing. I bet people would be willing to donate food etc for humans while we pugs played. It'd be sooo much fun, I love other pugs and I'd love to meet Dutch.

Hey Puglet,

A havanese friend of my moms took photos and made placemats she sold them for like $10 bucks, people wanted sets. They were very cool. I have lots of ideas. How about a trip to the beach and we can talk. Once you figure out what you want to do we should call the press. I think I will have to help you with this project because you are a boy and it will need a girls touch!

OOoh, these are some really good ideas! I'm not much of an idea guy.

Calendar: I think maybe we need a theme for the calendar. Like... I dunno... each month I eat a new food. I mean, all Pugs like food, right?

Uhm. My human just vetoed the food-of-the-month idea. Any others? I know we definitely need to have a friends page with all your pictures!

Placemat: Dutch makes big puddles of drool on the floor every time my human feeds us. It drives her nuts. Maybe a doggie drool mat? Let's talk this weekend :)

I like the play/event. It'd be like Pug Sunday, but better because it'd be for charity. Cool.

PS> Bellatrix, do you live near San Francisco? You should come to the next Pug Sunday. Dutch said you can even share his Henrietta rubberchicken (and he *never* shares his rubberchicken. see: http://bit.ly/8YYVnh)

The calender is excellent for raising money 7 when your human gets your book published you will be able to donate some of your earnings to your favorite cause/s. I've been going to pugsunday all my life & the press loves any excuse to go. My human would totally pay to have your human to take a picture of us. if you could get the word out & figure out how much to charge to make a profit for a new pug snout(don't forget to include a shipping charge) if you told the pug humans at pugsunday where & when they would totally be there if your human needs volunteers to help we volunteer our human
the press would show up for a ridiculouscuteness contest, parade or whatever... costume contest, show. After all who doesn't want to look at pugs other dogs too we have to be fair(but pugs are the supercutest
Just some thoughts. We want to help in any way we can.

Hey Puglet,
I live in the east bay and went to my first pug Sunday last month (hi Spencer!). Problem with Sunday is my mommy works on Sunday and she has to do magic on the schedule to be off on a Sunday. What Sunday of the month is San Francisco's? She's going to try and take me sometime in the future, as she knows I have a crush on Dutch. If I and my mommy can help with your fundraiser, let us know...we are willing to help out in any way.

THE PUGLET said...

A ridiculouscuteness parade! That sounds awesome. You girls should totally be in charge of pug PR. I think the press kinda = fame. right?

THE PUGLET said...

Hey Bellatrix~

SF PugSun is the 1st sunday. We almost went to yours last time. I don't remember now what kept us away, but sorry we missed you (and Spencer! and Lola! and the rest of the EB pugs!).

Your PugSun is warmer than ours (ask Spencer), so maybe we'll head over there for the next one.

Hi Puglet! Thanks for the shout out about by blog post on shark fin soup I'm not famous either but that hasn't stopped me from trying to do good and get the word out.

You've received some great ideas about how to raise money for pugs in need. I would totally be up for an eating contest but it wouldn't be fair if I entered because I'm sure I would win. I know, I know - I have a serious eating disorder.

I think you're looking too far in front of your face that you're missing something that's right underneath your nose. I'm talking about Jenny. She's already an international superstar, her videos are all over the Internet, and she has quite a following. And she's into you. She put you on her website. You could partner with her and raise lots of money for puggies.

Stubby xoxo

maybe we can recruit pugs this pugsunday in SF & in the EB the following sunday & then we can decide on a day for our parade & whatever else we can think of to help our pug friend then we'll get the press involved. Maybe Jenny who is already famous could use her star power & come to SF for our parade as a Grandmarshal or something to that effect. (this is perfect excuse to get her over here so you can meet in pugson) She would be a great attraction to get more people to come.

Just found out about a photo contest from the Humane society that you have to enter: http://photocontest.humanesociety.org/contest.html?contestId=2&utm_source=postcard2&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=spayday

THE PUGLET said...

OK Stubbs, so no eating contests (no worries about the disorder - I eat rocks).

But Jenny? I dunno. She's famous for being Jenny. I'm not Jenny, so don't I need my own famousness? I mean, otherwise I'm just a groupie?

I want to help pugs... but I don't want to blow it with Jenny.

(sigh)

I reeeeally think she's *the one*, Stubbs.

THE PUGLET said...

Is sounds like a good contest. But I swore off contests after all that bad stuff with that cuteness contest. Remember?

I guess I can enter, but I'm not asking anyone to vote for me. Is that bad?

Lol! Oh Puglet, my Mommy would pay $1 to pet you, she thinks you're awesome. What about some cute Puglet accessories that would sell fast on Cafe Press. Mommy buys my Daddy Pug "stuff" from Cafe Press and they would rock Puglet hoodies! :) With all of your moolah, you could certainly do a little good in the world! Pug Hugs, Las Vegas Lola

3pugs2luv said...

one more idea & then we'll shut up. how 'bout a Puglet event with a ridiculouscuteness parade, Puglet hoodies for sale & a silent auction with items donated from different businesses & people all we need is a catchy name to get peoples attention & make you your own famous.

THE PUGLET said...

Oh Zoey & Phoebe, don't you ever shut up! Let's plot a pug takeover at next weekend's PugSun.

Oh - BTW, Moochi the pug got her new snout (technical term: reconstructed soft palette). She will breathe much easier now.

My friend Mr Puggle has a Cafe Press store, he showed me how to make one too. Human Gimpy Brain forgot all about it! Thanks for the idea/reminder!
