SNAKES ON A PUG!

I know you're all totally wondering about our mystery trip. But before I tell you about where we went, I totally have to tell you about something crazy that happened when we got back.

We were out on our usual Saturday morning cow hike, walking the same trail we've walked like 8 million times, and my human started shouting at me. PUG! PUG! PUG-LET! I wasn't doing anything wrong, I swear. At least I didn't think I was. But I know when my human shouts PUG-LET like that  I must be in trouble.

And I was. But not because I did anything bad. No, I was in trouble because I didn't see the great big giant snake that was right in the middle of the trail. And it was going to eat me alive. Or maybe I was just going to step on it. Whatever. There was a snake. And there was me. And that made my human yell.

I don't know how I didn't notice the great big giant snake. But I didn't. And Dutch didn't either. My human says this is why we wouldn't last very long in the wild. I have no idea what that means. I mean, if I did see the snake, then what? It's not like I could do anything about it. A snake is a snake. End of story.

When I mentioned this to my human, she just laughed and said OK. She moved the snake off the trail so nobody else wouldn't almost step on it.

Maybe if I had thumbs I could pick up a snake and move it. Maybe if my human was normal she wouldn't pick up a snake. Maybe if my human wasn't a total spaz she could take a picture with Droid and hold a snake at the same time -- without dropping one of them on me.

Yikes! I never played with a real snake. My Daddy says that's a Gopher Snake, which is good, 'cause if it was a Pug Snake, it would eat you!

I do like to chase and eat bugs, though...

Oh my goodness! I saw a snake at the Garden & Mom almost had to go home & change her pants as well as almost scrambling up the nearest trees.

And you had ONE of them dropped on you? You encountered multiple snakes? I'm speechless.

Hugs to you snake wrangler. Stay safe, next time wear your protective snake boots so you don't get bit by venomous snakes!

SNAKE!!!! ON YOUR BACK!!!!!! EW EW EW EW EW EW EW EW EW EW EW EW EW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your human touched it with her hands? I think I just fainted thinking about it. You have a brave mommy.

THE PUGLET said...

Yeah. Thumbs freaked on me for almost stepping on the snake, then reached down and PICKED IT UP.

It doesn't sound like snake-touching is something normal humans do (at least not lady humans) but she says it was just a gopher snakes and gopher snakes are friendly. Unless you're a gopher, I guess.

And I guess the snake was friendly enough... until my human dropped it on me. That's when it started making a really icky hissy-puffy noise that even freaked her out a little.

Can I have a new human now?

PS: thanks Bellatrix's daddy for the snake ID confirmation :)

Ack! You & your human are both brave, harmless gopher snake or not!

I wonder if gopher snake knows Bill Murray???

Hi everyone: This is Bo from Sacramento's Mom. I'm sending out a huge S.O.S. for some major juju for Bo. My baby boy is very sick, and the vet hasn't been able to figure what is wrong with him.

Bo hasn't eaten in 4 days (a Pug that won't eat is a very sick Pug!) and has been vomitting. He spent 2 days in the hospital on IV fluids and started having some serious diarrhea last night.

Bo is going to see a vet who specializes in Pugs in the morning. Please keep your paws crossed that she figures out what is wrong with my Baby Boy; I am super-duper worried about him.

Pug kisses to everyone, and thank you for all the juju you can send Bo's way.

My MOm has a very upset stomach now cos she was sure it was a rattlesnake and your mom dropped it on you!!! (My Mom thinks all snakes are rattle snakes) MY mom is very very afraid of snakes...ewwwwwww...she seen outside in the flowers this year that was 15 feet long and had a mouth as big as a beach ball so she now refuses to water any of the flowers in the yard..thus they are now burnt up. We did have a snake escape in the school science lab in May a boa constrictor...they found it last week...my mom refused to drive to that county cos she knew the snake would crawl up into the van....do you see what I live with....glad you are okay....sometimes having thumbs is not a good thing!

My human mom does not like snakes at all. She would never, ever touch one. In fact, she usually passes out when she sees one. That is why human dad is suppose to watch out for them....but he doesn't do a very good job. Me-- I don't know about them. I might want to bark at it.....or maybe spin around!

Coooool! Did you get to sniff it? Lick it? I wonder if snakes taste better than frogs. At least your human didn't drop the Android on you. Now that could have hurt.

Pug-LET,
What the heck was your human thinking you never ever touch a snake they bite and feel icky. We were walking about two monnths ago by our house and from nowhere this snake came across the road, it was grey with diamonds all over it, Ellie went balistic she wanted to attack cause she is our protector. Her barking made it kinda mad cause it curled up and then made a noise a *RATTLE noise*..mom made us run for our lives. Two feet and 12 paws running like the wind to get home to safety.

Big JUJU to Bo hope he gets better soon.

Best. Post. Ever. Puglet, you don't want a new human, think of how boring your life would be. Although a bacon apology would be a nice gesture....

Your mom is my hero.

Somebody told me once that snakes don't have an odor, so dogs can't pick them up. I'm totes impressed you picked it up, I'm a man with thumbs and I'm not picking any snake up.

Snakes are cool! Living in Minnesota is great because 99.9% of all snakes are harmless! We have a few reportings of rattle snakes in the Mississippi River valley in southern Minnesota, but never as far north as Minneapolis. Sometimes snakes poop when they get scared and it is REALLY stinky!! Otherwise gopher snakes are absolutely harmless. If you have never handled a snake you would be surprised at how soft they are (and not at all slimy!). You are a brave Puglet!

Puglet,
If you think your lady human is abnormal, you should meet our lady human. She has two different snakes that live in glass cages in our house and sometimes she holds them and we sniff at them but we don't find them very interesting. The cats like to watch the snakes, but to us they just seem boring. But our lady human brings home rats to feed to the snakes, and those smell really interesting.

Major JUJU to Bo.

She picked up a snake??!!! And dropped it on you?! And you stood still? What a brave pug you are... by the way, where was Dutch? My human would never pick up a snake, in fact, she'd be running super fast away from it... I think that would scare me most!

You are hilarious!

Hi Everyone: I want to thank all of you for the major juju you are sending to Bo.

Bo is very sick and was admitted to the animal hospital today. The vets don't know yet exactly what is wrong, but for now they are calling it hemorrhagic gastroenteritis. They are doing everything they can think of to try to figure out what is causing this, but for now he is on IVs for fluids and meds and getting lots of tender loving care.

Please keep Bo in your prayers - he needs all the help he can get right now. He is not out of the woods by any means.

Bo is #649 of 1000 Pugs - I hope he gets to make his photoshoot - I may have to reschedule our day/time, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that he will still be able to be a part of this wonderful project.

I want to thank Puglet, Dutch, and Amanda for allowing all of us to share our stories and prayers for all the sick pugs.

Puglet, Dutch, Amanda - you are all PAWSOME!!!

Bo from Sacramento's Mom.

To Bo in Sacramento's Mom:

The most important aspect of treatment of HGE is intravenous fluid therapy to replace lost fluid volume.

The vomiting and diarrhea are treated symptomatically and will usually resolve after one to two days. Antibiotics targeting C. perfringens are also used.

With prompt, aggressive treatment, the prognosis is good.

Our prayers are with you.
