Well, me and Stubby have been working together to make my next video (technical term: collaboration) and got to talking about plastic on my local beaches. Stubby lives in Illinois and has never seen California or its beach plastic - see what I mean about wise??
Anyway. Stubby told me about these local artist people who collect plastic from a beach near San Francisco and make stuff out of it. I love artists because they can turn bits of nothing into something special, but I go to the beach all the time and never see much plastic. I don't think even the best artist can create something special from nothing, so yesterday we went in search of this mysterious plastic.
Holy cowpies did we find some plastic!!
Turns out, when you walk down by the water (like we normally do) all you find is rocks, shells and sand dollars. But if you walk up on the dry sand where the high tide washes stuff up, it's a totally different story. There are candy wrappers and soda bottles and plastic bottle caps - a gazillion bottle caps in every size, shape and color.
We also found (among MANY other things):
- loads of nylon rope
- easter egg halves
- half a toothbrush
- a comb
- an empty lipstick thingy
- straws
- a tiny blue bear
- and the giant-est tire I've ever seen.
It didn't take long to fill Dutch's backpack and a large carry bag with a whole mess of plastic junk. All from just one tiny piece of beach about the size of our apartment. It made me very, very sad.
I'm not the Greenest or wisest pug, so I'm not sure where all this plastic junk comes from. But I do know it doesn't belong in our oceans or on our beaches. I can't save the world's recycled dogs AND the whole entire planet all by myself, so if there's anything you can do to help stop the plastic - please do it!

FLATTIE NEWS!
FLATTIE NEWS!
Today my flat self continues to spread the word. He hangs out with Wilma, Brigitte & Sluggo on the other coast and is introduced to an ancient dead dude, giant old bones and a GINORMOUS tick. He also gets to be a mystery reader (very cool!).
You can read about it here on flatpuglet.com

Hi Puglet! Thanks for the awesome compliments! Mom read them to me over and over again despite her thinking that they're going to give me a big head.
The plastic situation makes me so sad. Mom finds tons of plastic on her turtle beaches. I don't know why people insist on throwing plastic away - be it in the ocean, on the street, or in the garbage. The animals don't have a chance with all that plastic floating around.
Thanks for spreading the plastic-is-bad message.
Stubby xoxo
Hello Puget -
We are really glad that Stubby is educated you on the plastics situation!!! He is a very smart puggie! We love to hear him spread his meassage.

You're not the only one who feels terrible about this garbage situation. We're not as lucky to be close to the beach all the time but we find garbage everyday when we walk. Our human takes a big bag with us on our walks & it looks silly; like we make enormous poop or something cause we're always getting funny looks but we pick up the garbage as we go along. We are sad to say sometimes we have to clean the same spot we just cleaned the day before. It's really easy to get overwhelmed when there is so much to do to make this a better world. We are just grateful that there are pugs out there like you & Stubby to look out for the world & its creatures. We're with you & will do as much as we can to leave this world a better place than we found it.

Sorry ' bout the typo's.
I just got my nails trimmed and my paw feels goofy.
XO,
Josie
This stuff makes me sad too...some humans are so destructive and leave the good humans to clean up after them...and it impacts us all. Humans are really making some damage...
Z&P ~
I know what you mean. We got some looks collecting plastic on the beach too. That's so awesome your human does it every day. I think we will have to bring plastic home with us from now on too.
Josie (& co) ~
Yup. Your man Stubby has a lot to teach. And he's pretty cute. For a dude, I mean.
Hiya Spencer B ~
I know! Us pugs would never leave a bunch of plastic junk lying around for poor fishes to eat by mistake. All we leave behind is poop and that's biodegradable.
Exactly Puglet. Humans can be so disgusting. We pick up our poops and they can't even pick up their bottle caps, etc?! I'd call humans pigs but pigs don't even leave garbage around- they'd rather eat it than harm the planet.
Congrats on being so considerate, Puglet! You have inspired me very much. I've been telling my human's friends and my friends to pick up their trash. Tomorrow we are all going to clean up our beach! It makes me feel awful to think of all the other creatures living in the ocean or the birds who get caught in this stuff or swallow it just because of a few lazy people!
Go Puglet, maybe Flat Puglet should start spreading the word!
