#56!

Practice makes famous.

I'm glad my famousness was able to score someone a six cow-part snack. According to The Randomizer, the lucky someone is commentor #56. I'm not 100% sure my gimpy-brained human can count all the way to 56 without making a mistake, so I guess that just makes picking a winner super random but...

Congratulations #56: Coco/aka Treat Lover

(how crazy
is that!?)!!

Send me an email dailypuglet[at]gmail[.]com with all your info so we can tell the postal people where to deliver the Stella & Chewys.

And for the other 74 commentors, I'll try to get even more famous so I can score more snacks. Oh! And if you live near a park (and are in America) the Nutro people are doing this cool national dog park cleanup thing tomorrow and will be giving out free snacks and stuff.

You can look for a park near you & get all the info on the Nutro facebook page.

FAME FOR ME = FOOD FOR YOU

So I was at our local Pet Food Express yesterday stocking up on bully penis when I heard someone say "Is that Puglet?". I didn't know the guy who said it, but he totally knew me. Said he read The Daily Puglet in a newspaper called Bay Woof and recognized me from the article.

Cool.

I haven't felt famous since last year's Green Pug video and the extra attention felt really really good. It felt even better when the lady behind the counter asked if she could have my pawtograph.

Heck yeah! Famous.

Humans go kinda nuts over famous people, so I thought maybe I could use my fame to do something good. Y'know, like score some free snacks for friends. So I asked if I could please have something edible to give away here on the DP. Y'know, give back to everyone who helped make me a star.

(That's you)

The nice Pet Food Express man said yes and picked out some awesome low-fat, breath freshening treats (perfect for pugs). But the ingredient list wasn't very Food Revolutionary so I hunted around for something a little more... real.

It was kinda tough to find something that everyone here can eat (including the kitties), but I think Stella & Chewy's are eatable for everyone. They have about six different kinds of cow in them and are crazy tasty. INSANELY tasty.

I'm not famous enough (yet) to score more than one bag of free snacks, so I'll let The Randomizer pick which lucky someone gets to get them.

Please remember to follow the Random rules:

* one comment each so my human doesn't have to do any counting

* if you're anonymous, say your name in your comment

* comments close TONIGHT at 2am San Francisco time
* come back tomorrow to see who won

I'll totally be reading all your comments, but won't talk back until tomorrow so The Randomizer doesn't get confused.

PS: I totally forgot to check the calendar (thanks Phoebe & Zoey :)

SOY GRIT?

So, I guess not everyone likes the Jamie Oliver guy or his revolution. And if you don't really like eating healthy stuff, and don't want some goofy dude telling you what not to eat - that's cool, I get it.

But here's the thing. When I eat poop, I know I'm eating 100% real poop. I know SPAM is 100% SPAM. And if I ever got lucky enough to eat a hamburger, I'd want it to be 100% hamburger and 0% Pink Slime.

My human says a lot of food out there isn't 100%
real anything. And I'm pretty sure that's what the Food Revolution is about: keeping it real. Since the people at ABC put Dancing with the Fools on TV last night instead of Jamie Oliver, I decided to have my own Food Revolution with a bag of chicken meatballs from Milo's Kitchen.

Milo's 100% REAL "Meat"balls

Uhm, yeah. You'd think meatballs = balls of meat, right? Wrong. Here's what Milo put in my meatballs:

Chicken, Soy Grits, Beef, Sugar, Glycerine, Textured Vegetable Protein, Salt, Monoglyceride, Garlic Powder, Natural Flavor, Sorbic Acid (used as a preservative), BHA (used as a preservative), Onion Extract.

I'm glad there isn't any Pink Slime in my meatballs, but some of the other stuff sounds kinda suspicious. Soy Grits? Textured Vegetable Protein? What the ??

The Milo's Kitchen website says I "deserve 100% real, tender, home-style chicken meatballs" so I thought I'd be eating 100% MEATballs, not Textured Vegetable Soy Grit & some meat Balls.

Google says Soy Grits are a "meat filler". Ditto for the T.V.P. Neither of them are going to kill me or anything, but lots of dogs are allergic to soy and I'm pretty sure soy isn't meat. My human let me try some of her TVP stuff and there's definitely no meat in there.

I have no idea what Monoglyceride is, but Google says it can be made from cow, hog or vegetable (I hope Milo uses the cow or hog kind at least). Don't ask me what the heck Glycerine is. Sugar doesn't really need to in dog snacks and neither does the onion because dogs and onions are a bad combo. My human says since onion is the last ingredient, there's not enough of it to hurt me. But why even put it in there?

Now, you know I'll eat anything. And I'm sure Milo's Meatballs will go down like a hotdog, but I asked The Man not to buy them for me again. Because when someone (ahem, Milo) says they're giving me a
100% real, tender, home-style chicken meatball - I want it to be a 100% real, tender, home-style chicken meatball. Not a some-meat ball with a bunch of other junk thrown in there.

Y'know?

THE FOOD REVOLUTION

I pretty much stopped watching TV when my human banned Animal Planet from our living room to stop me from attacking the TV. But's a new show called Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution that I'm really into. From what I can tell, it's about this food dude (Jamie) who is trying to save the world from bad food. Or something like that. Jamie is kinda goofy and talks funny, but you can tell he totally LOVES food.

In the first episode, Jamie cut a cow into pieces, poured nasty chemicals on it, then put it in a washing machine to make "Pink Slime". Now, we all know I eat poop. But no way I'd ever eat Pink Slime. That stuff is nasty. And when I say nasty, I mean NASTY.

But here's the thing - apparently the US government says it's OK to put nasty-ass Pink Slime in hamburgers and Jamie wants to stop this (among other things). I guess that's where the Revolution part comes in.

Right now Jamie is trying save the kids in Los Angeles public schools from nasty stuff like Pink Slime, but the schools won't let him anywhere near their kitchen. He's not even allowed to look at their food.

Crazy, yeah?

Completely.
No idea what Los Angeles' problem is, but if some food dude wanted to come into my kitchen and make the food better, I'd totally let him in (hear that Jamie?). Tonight is only episode #3 so I guess someone will explain why at some point. I hope.

My human says Jamie is probably too busy trying to fix Los Angeles to worry about making my food better, but he totally inspired me to find out what's lurking in the stuff I eat. Tomorrow I'll tell you all about what I found in a
bag of "all natural meatballs" The Man bought me.

I didn't find any Pink Slime, but let's just say that after reading the label I didn't really want to eat them anymore. OK, maybe I do still want to eat them a little bit. But only because the only other snack we get to eat around here is carrots.

Jamie's all-about-food show is on TV tonight. Check out the Food Revolution website for the info.

PS: 674,645 people in the USA support Jamie's Food Revolution, but I didn't see anything on the website about pugs. If you're on facebook, you can like Jamie with me: facebook.com/FoodRevolutionCommunity.

NOT-SO-GENIUS IDEA

Mega thanks for trying to make my heart feel better about Twizzle. Sorry I wasn't here on Friday to tell you that, but I had my paws full with a little problem.

So, remember last week when I was kinda complaining about Dutch getting to score cookies at new Special Vets all the time? And how Bellatrix commented about me needing to find my own itch so I could get a new special vet too? Well, I thought this was a genius idea and decided to try it.

Uhm. Right. Just like the time I tried to fake a heart attack so they wouldn't cut off my boy parts and ended up dying, trying to fake an itch turned out to be a not so genius idea.
It started out OK. I thought itchy thoughts and a few hours later these little bumps started showing up on my belly. Itchy bumps. Really itchy bumps. Have a look:

So far, so good, right? I showed my human the bumps and suggested that perhaps a Special Vet might need to fix them. She said no - all I needed a cool bath and something called Benedryl. She gave me a bath and a little pink pill.

Kinda lame because the whole point of the bumps was to score cookies from a Special Vet. The bumps (technical term: hives) were getting really really itchy and the whole pill and bath thing totally wasn't helping. My human wasn't too worried about it - until the hives started to take over my belly.... and spread to my face.

When hives attack!

I guess itchy face-bumps can be kind of a big deal because when one of my eyes started to squish closed, she said it was vet time. And because it was late at night and our regular vet was closed, we'd be going to a Special Vet.

Woo hoo!

Lucky for me, there's a 24-hour Special Vet like 2 minutes from our house. I was really excited when we got there and immediately looked around for a nice desk lady or some sort of cookie window. But no. Instead, they rushed me in the back (without my human) to give me quick exam.

I guess the Dr decided itchy face-bumps weren't going to kill me because they brought me right back to my human. But not before stopping at the scale and telling the whole entire waiting room that I weight 26.5lbs.

Great.

I totally forgot that vet=scale. And since the hives weren't going to kill me or anything, I knew there would be no cookies.
I even tried to convince my human that the extra 1.5 lbs must be hive-weight, but she totally didn't buy it.

Super humiliating ice-pack treatment.

So I got to go to a Special Vet, but did not get cookies.
We waited for a long time -- sooo long that the hives gave up and went away on their own. My human was really happy about not having to pay a Special Vet bill.

I'm hive-free right now, but the bumps
keep coming and going. Our normal vet said the pink pill/cool water or ice pack combo should be enough to make them better. Oh - my human doesn't know I wished the bumps to happen so please don't tell her that part.
