PHASE II

So, I've been keeping an eye on PugPros (our local pug rescue) to see if Flat Puglet is making a difference. I figure if the number of adoptable pugs goes down, the Flat Puglet Project must be working.

Well. I was totally heartbroken to see how many homeless pugs PugPros has. There are 32.
That's 32 too many!!! There were 27 when my human made this little collage of their pictures last week and I remember hearing there's a waiting list for pugs to get IN to the rescue (not enough foster homes). Not good.

Pug Pros Adoptable Pugs

And that's just pugs. And just here in the San Francisco Bay Area. I suck at math, but I'd guess you probably have to multiply these 32 pugs by about a gazillion to find out how many homeless dogs there really are. Totally not good.

Flat Puglet has been busy spreading the word. And his hosts are doing a completely awesome job showing him around and telling people about his mission (seriously - we've been really amazed by the awesomeness of his visits!!). But if FP is going to change the world, he needs to get major attention. So I think it's time for Phase II of the project:

OPERATION, uh... PHASE II.

Phase II is all about getting FP noticed, big time. Like Oprah-big-time. OK, maybe Oprah is more like Phase III. But you know what I mean. He needs to go places where gazillions of people will see him.
He needs like, an audience.

And here's where I ask for your help!

I need your most brilliant-est ideas. Where should FP go? Who should he try to meet?? My human has a few totally ran
dom places in mind (the Ace of Cakes place, Dogtown, Cesar Milan's k9 rehab center) but her brain's been working overtime and is gimpier than usual so the list pretty much stops there.

So..... Any ideas???

FLATTIE NEWS!
My flat self loved Florida, but needed to cool off a little after so much time in the sun. So he headed back to Illinois, where he was welcomed with fresh snow (and and a bully stick!).

FP and his host Scamper went on to meet lots of pugs at a place called ADOPT!

Read
about it here at flatpuglet.com.

email oprah or ellen - and get people to email them on mass on behalf of the fp project a well. they cant ignore mass emails about the same thing can they lol. this is also oprahs last year, so its the last time you can get mass coverage from the oprah show.

good luck!

australia has alot of dogs in shelters and homeless as well. i do some work for silky and seniors rescue, they specialise in saving, rehabilitating and rehoming dogs over 6 years old. we are also discussing donating some of our land to a rescue organisation in melbourne so that they can build a huge shelter to accomodate more dogs.

cheers to puglet, dutch and your very special human.

Hi Puglet! The flattie has been doing awesome work and I think you're being a little too hard on him and yourself. Even though it takes time to make a difference, I think moving into Phase II is a great idea. As for ideas on where the flattie can go I agree with Melanie that Oprah and Ellen are great choices. Both love dogs and always want to help out. Another idea would be to find celebrities (other than the above mentioned) that have pugs and send them a flattie.

I don't have my thinking cap on just yet because it's early but another thought is getting shelters and rescue organizations involved. Is PugPros involved? Do they have a flattie? What about Best Friends in Utah? I'll try to come up with more ideas after breakfast. It's hard to think on an empty stomach.

Stubby xoxo

Pee-s: The link to today's post showed up incorrectly on my sidebar. It said "I Still Pity The Fools" but when I clicked on it, I got a message that the page was not found. Maybe you changed the title of your post and Google didn't understand?

Puglet, I was thinking you're based in SF and so is the show "Mythbusters". They might be willing to help you out. The girl on the show, Carrie, has a Frenchie, so she might be willing to get the word out. Maybe someone who reads your awesome blog has an "in" with the super famous people. Hmmm...I will get to thinking on this.

Ellen tries to do a lot for animals, at least with donating healthy food and things. Maybe real Puglet can get on the show.

Hey Puglet, I agree with Stubby, you are not giving yourself enough credit for all you've done already. But I admire your drive and am behind you 100% for phase II. It's not a huge media outlet, but one thing is my Auntie sent us a link yesterday about a new startup blogroll for pets. I was going to look it over and do a post. Here's the link if you want to check it out. http://www.petsblogroll.com/

What about dog magazines like Urban Dog or Bark too.
Howard Sterns wife Beth is very active in dog rescue. I'm going to see how to contact her. I'm gonna keep my thinkin' cap on for ya Puglet

We knows how you feel Puglet. We've been seeing Pugs at the shelters too. It's disheartening.

Our mom sent you an email last week about our Flat Puglet but we haven't heard back about where to send him next. We're thinking you didn't get her email.

Hey Puglet, this is Gena from PROS and I'd love to give you big huge hugs and puggy kisses. Yes, we have way too many pugs and 15 more on our waiting list. We've brought 4 more in this week so we are busting at the seams. We could take so many more in if we also had more foster homes to help us take care of more pugs including some at the shelter.

Oh and by the way, I have Flat Puglett from Laurie in Shingle Springs and I've been so busy I haven't been able to pass him on but 2 of our Senior pugs, Scout and Rocky are going to Monterey this coming weekend to their new home and Flat Puglett will be helping so an update will come.

Hello Puglet!

I think my Studly Stubby man is right, but I hesitate saying that because I know I'm just ONE more puggie telling you that. Listen, my friend, you are doing AMAZING work. There is that pressing saying that you cannot fight city hall in a day! I know that results are NEEDED NOW! But!!! In due time they will and when they do come...Just like a birth of a baby (or a puppy) it will be worth it. Enjoy the ride. Mommy always says to pause or (paws) be in the moment and regard all and everything around you! Great things will come little Puglet! They will! You are doing so well! Phase II can happen too. But give more time. Phase II will seek YOU!

XO
Josie

I knew you would all have some good ideas!

OK. I've added Ellen, and Carrie with the Frenchie from Mythbusters, Howard Stern's wife and dog magazines to the list (Bark Magazine is near where we hike with cows so maybe I can deliver Flattie in person!).

I guess Flattie has only been doing his thing for a month, but when I saw all those pugs on PugPros it just made me so sad...

PS - Stubbs, that Josie is a keeper. She is very Zen and wise, just like you.

Stella, Gunther and Betty -

Oh no. We didn't get your email! Or we did and the computer ate it (which really means my human screwed up and is blaming it on technology).

Can you pls send again? I'll be on the lookout.....

We know it's hard to see so many dogs in need & not want to help them all right now. You are doing great work, so don't be so hard on yourself. All of these ideas are great & some extra emails to TV shows would be great, we send them out once a week but we're just one in a million emails they get everyday. We send to GMA, Rachel Ray, Oprah, Ellen & whoever else we can think of.
Someone once said, Think Globally, Act locally.
Maybe we can organize a local Adoption Event where all the rescue groups & shelters can be in one place & people looking to rescue an animal can see what their options are. This could help some animals get forever homes & possibly raise some money. This also give you an opportunity to get some local press & what they call "exposure" & you'll be on your way to becoming famous.
That's all we have for now, if we think of anything else we'll let you know.
Luv, Zoey & Phoebe

You HAVE to send FP to Charm City Cakes! Mary Alice would LOVE him! I could see him being passed around to all the decorators. They're big animal lovers there. I love that show!

Ellen would be the perfect person. She loves dogs and likes to feature fun things on her show.

I TOTALLY forgot about your email campaign. That's so cool of you to keep it up. I think you're right about the millions of emails though. It's probably time we send a real Flattie to "high profile" strangers. Like Rachel and Ellen.

My human just tested out a see-thru envelope and it made it through the mail OK (there was serious doubt). FP will definitely get some attention in a clear travel pouch.

Hiya Noodle!!

CC cakes was totally my idea. They are so cool and seem like the PERFECT peeps to entertain a FP!!!

Another vote for Ellen! Maybe I should send her TWO flat mees!!

Hi Gena from pugpros!

I wish we could have more dogs at my house, we'd take in alllll the pugs waiting for a foster spot.

Please let me know if there's ever anything else we can do!

Okay, I don't know if this is a good idea or not, but you know that doggie food Pedigree? Well they are very big at doing "shelter dog" commercials. And their spokesman is David Duchovny (minus the aliens). So maybe they'd be able to help, mentioning all the shelter pugs that are waiting for forever homes. I's never got their doggie food, but I's likes their commercials. "Don't pity a shelter dog, adopt one!"

Don't forget VIctoria Stillwell, she rescues as well. And she's in Atlanta now.
Plus, the Milwaukee Pug Fest is in May, over 1000 pugs are expected to come. They are all about rescues. And SEPRA in Atlanta has a huge event, the fall, I think. If you send me something (allyramsey at verizon dot net), I'm happy to put it out to my pug rescue loop. Lots of different organizations are involved. If I am able to get on TV for Pugapalooza in May, I will bring Flat Puglet with me.

Hey Natty & Klaus (2pugsinapod)~

Oh - I didn't even think about Victoria S. We had to stop watching her show because I attack the TV whenever a dog comes on it. Totally drives my human nuts.

I'll have my human email you. We're going to email the Pug Fest people too. Thanks!!!

Hi DW ~

My human like David Duchovny. People say I kinda look like an alien (E.T.). Maybe we CAN collaborate!!

Thanks :)

What if a celebrity who HAS a pug helped by adopting a second pug and then puglicising their good deed? If you google celebrity pugs you can find some famous pug owners.

Or maybe that's lame!?!?!

But I am of little brain tonight!
