GRAMPUG?

Now that my human is busy making an army of Flat Puglets, I have lots of time to think about other things. Like Jenny. And food. And pesky gray furs.

I mean, has anyone noticed what's happening on my chin? No? Well, take a closer look. There's a whole bunch of gray furs. They started showing up a few months ago and seem to be getting worse. My friend Google said you turn gray when you get older, but I'm not older yet. I haven't even made it to my second birthday!!

As soon as Brother Dutch heard gray=old, he started calling me Grampug. He's five years older than me and there's not a single gray fur on his chin. My human is, like, ancient and I don't see any gray on her either.

[note from human: wrong - it just blends in with the blonde].

Does anyone else here have the gray furs
? If you've got the gray furs, were you young when they came -- or am I some kind of freak?

Beulah is only 2 and she has white furs on her chin and cheeks too!!! Barney is four and has white furs on his chin but the rest of him is chocolate (yum!). I was worried at first but Google tells me its pretty common to have "premature greying" in lots of dogs, especially those with a melanistic mask:

I was trying to find out if it was related to genetics but it doesn't seem like it. I'm pretty sure you have a lots of years ahead, Puglet!

Paco also has grey hairs on his chin, and he is almost 4. Honey's face has very little black, but since she is a recycled pug who only joined us when she was 7-ish, and also is part Chihuahua (we think), she may have been born that way.

Here's something that you can tell your brother Dutch if he teases you too much - white hair is also a "sign" of being old, and he is half white! ;)

Puglet, I wouldn't worry. I think it is just a pug thing and not age related at all. Most of the pugs I know got gray furs really early. My in-laws pug is only three, and his whole muzzle is gray!

Relax Puglet, I (Yoda) had gray on my chin when I was your age - mom and dad said it looked like I had a little goatee.

Hi Puglet, it's Trunks from Florida. I have been greying since I was about 2. My human was worried at first too, so now she calls me her Distinguished Gentleman! My human also wanted me to tell you that you shouldn't worry about the grey and that alot of "men" get better looking as they age!

Hi Puglet! I have lots of gray on my face but I'm old. I started getting gray when I was about your age so I wouldn't worry about it too much if I were you. Mom is starting to get lots of gray hairs and Dad is really gray but they are older than your human.

Speaking of worrying, stress will make you gray faster then anything. All the worrying you are doing about pugs in need, Jenny, etc. might be taking their toll on you. Chill out and relax. You can't fix the worlds problems overnight.

Pee-s: Mom felt the same way your human does about social networking when everyone asked her to get on Facebook. She fought it for a long time and finally joined the party. It really is a good tool for spreading the word about causes. Maybe your agents could handle the social networking piece of your venture.

Hi Puglet!
I'm three and have had grey hairs on my chin since I was 1 1/2. No biggie.

Puglet..mommy says when men get gray hair it's a sign of wisdom, but when women get them...it's a sign they own a trouble making pug. Not sure what she's getting at. I think you look so handsome, I'm sure Jenny would love to snuggle that muzzle.

Don't worry Puglet. It sounds pretty normal; it's just more noticable on a dark muzzle - you can tell Dutch that he's probalby covered with them but nobody can see them. Phoebe started late with the graying but she refuses to grow up. Maybe you can try that in addition to a little relaxation. Zoey is all black & most of her gray is underneath her where nobody can see it but now a little bit is starting to come through on her face & what's worse is that she has a thick gray stripe growing in the middle of her tail (the theory is that there's some skunk deep in her family line-don't tell her because she can't stand them). So you see Puglet you are not alone. So go tell your human that you're under a lot of stress & that a massage & extra love would help.

P.S. Yoda started to gray right before his 1st birthday but it looked like a little goatee; we thought it was very cute, uh, manly.

Hey Puglet. I've had gray hairs on my chin since my human brought me home when I was 8 weeks old!

My human gets gray hairs, but some other human named Matt takes care of it. Matt must be a great guy to do that for my human, do you think he does pugs?

puglet, gray hairs aren't a sign that you're 'old', they mean you are 'wise' or so my mom says. they mean you've learned lots and lots and that you are super smart. i started going gray around age 2. most of my chin is gray, i have some grey on my cheeks, the backs of my arms and inbetween my toes. mom calls me silver paws sometimes. its probably more noticable on me cuz i used to be solid black

I have a melanisitc mask? WOw. Who knew??

(for those of you who don't know my friend Google, melanistic mask just means a dark snout on a light-colored body)

I'm glad the grey furs aren't anything to worry about. Seems like it's a pug thing.

Oh - and "Distinguished Gentleman" sounds a whole lot better than "Grampug"!

Puglet,
I'm 4 and I started getting gray furs on my chin when I was only 2 and it freaked my mom out. I heard her tell my auntie that I just could't get old because I have to be with her forever!!! That was my plan in the first place, so I'm not concerned about it at all. My sister Kizzy is 3 and she is black and doesn't have any gray furs. That must be because she is the trouble maker and I worry about it all the time. :-( You don't have nearly as many as I do and I think yours are very handsome.

Hey Puglet - mom said I've had little gray hairs on my chin since I was about 1 1/2. I turned 2 in October. She read about a professional photo lady who uses mascara on her puggy's chin to cover up the grays. I wouldn't worry about it, grays make us look wordly & sophisticated.

My human has a hair-fixer like Matt but her name is Courtney. She's awesome and loves dogs. I'll find out if she can do anything about gray furs. Y'know, just in case Jenny isn't into the George Clooney look.

In case you missed my trip to Courtney's Salon:
