WEEKLY PUGLET?

So I told my human if she doesn't start giving me more thumb-time soon, we're going to have to change the name of my blog to Weekly Pulget. She didn't like the sound of this and neither do I. But I guess her thumbs have their hands full and even though I'm on the list somewhere, I'm just not at the top of it right now.

Not at the top of the list? Seriously?? I'm not sure what that's about, but I made her promise to fix it ASAP. Weekly is not OK. For me. For you. Or for my human. Daily helps keep her sane and happy. And right now she needs all the sane and happy we can get.

So, I'm going to work on making the Daily Puglet daily again. For us, you and everyone else. While I'm busy doing that, here's some serious human-stuff I want everyone to know about.

WHAT A HEART ATTACK LOOKS LIKE

SOPHIE + HER MOM a few weeks ago in NJ.

Last week my cousin Sophie's mom had a heart attack. This happened to me when they tried to take away my boy parts, but she was just eating breakfast. She was totally healthy and didn't know it was a heart attack. She thought she was sick from helping one of her friends clean out a wet, moldy house Huge Sandy ruined. Even Google said mold could make you feel pukey.

When feeling pukey turned into sweating and puke-ing, Sophie's mom figured it was time to see a doctor. Y'know, to get drugs or something to make the mold-sickness go away. She felt too sick to drive so my human's brother came and took her to the ER. On the way there, he told her to let the doctors make their own diagnosis. I guess his friend's mom thought she had food poisoning so she told the doctor she thought she had food poisoning. The doctor gave her stuff to fix food poisoning when what she really had was a twisted intestine and what she really needed was surgery.

It took like two minutes for the doctors to figure out what was really going on with Sophie's mom and helicoptered her to a special hospital faster than you can say heart attack. The heart-people totally fixed her and now she's doing awesome, but it was still superscary for everyone. Especially since things could have been way worse.

So. I want everyone to know a few things.

THING #1
If you're really sick, go to the doctor (Google doesn't count). When you get there, let the doctor be the doctor. They might say you have Lupus or something stupid, but it's better to not-really-have-Lupus than to have Lupus and not know it. Right?

THING #2
Healthy people have heart attacks too. And they don't always feel like heart attacks. It might feel like an elephant is sitting on your chest, or you might just sweat and puke up your breakfast. Sophie's mom said she felt sick, but not 911 sick and definitely NOT put-me-on-a-helicopter heart attack sick.

If you have a heart, you should know the symptoms of an attack:
  • Chest pain or tightness
  • Pain in jaw or arm
  • Irregular heartbeat
  • Light-headedness, dizziness, fainting
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Shortness of breath
  • Sweating, which may be very heavy

There is one more thing. A really important one. But I'll save it for tomorrow so my human will have to give me some thumb time.

OMPug!!! Today, I am so extra super thankful that Cousin Sophie's mom is A-OK after a heart attack! That is SCA-RY!!

And, I'm thankful that her doctors knew she was sicker than she thought she was, and were able to give an accurate diagnosis and excellent, life-saving treatment!

Yay, doctors and healthy hearts!

So glad Sophie's mom is ok now and was able to get the treatment she needed... that is really scary!

Puglet,
I'm so glad that Sophie's mom is OK now.

Just to add to your good advice, it is important for women to remember that the symptoms of heart attack are often different than the symptoms men have when having a heart attack. So women and the men in their lives should be aware of the most common symptoms for women.

I am glad that sophie's momma is on the road to recovery. The same thing happened to my momma, she said it was the healthiest time of her life, and yet she went to bed feeling great and woke up in the middle of the night sick and her lips were blue. we live two blocks from the hospital and after some blood work her d dimmer was 5000 when it should have been 450 or so...the helicopter came and mom flew to a bigger better hospital. her heart beat is slow sometimes but she is doing better! Women have much different signs then men...its hard to know what is what!

Lola and Ellie are glad that Sophie's mom is ok, they really liked meeting her at their photo shoots.

They can tell you when your human has to call 911 it's never a good thing. This big loud truck comes with flashing lights and they take your human away. Then your human that called runs out of the house and forgets all about you until they both come home.

You have to be really quite and not bark or snore too loud. It's always good to give all humans extra cuddles they really need it.

Holy Pugnation Pug! That's big news! And we're relieved and very happy that Sophie's Mom (your grand-human, btw) is doing well and went to the doctor in time to be OK. She is very nice lady and we had such a lovely time with her at the shoots. Please send her our love and juju!

We look forward to seeing more of you! We miss you.

No wonder your human isn't feeling very sane - first you getting sick on her and then Sophie's human.
I am so glad that the vets (both pug and human) were able to figure things out quickly and you both are ok.

We met Sophie & Sophie's Mom (aka Amanda's Mom) in NY during the 1000Pugs photo shoot. What a lovely, wonderful person!

I am sorry to hear about the scary attack, but I'm so happy that she is alright now, and everything work out the way it suppose to. Doctors making correct diagnosis, and acting quickly.

Super scary - but I am happy Sophie's mom is now feeling better and we are all a little wiser. It is totally tough to diagnose a woman's heart attack because the symptoms are often vague. When in doubt, go to the hospital. The doctors would rather it be a false alarm than a heart attack.

Scary... hope she won't EVER have that again.
Are you, Puglet, doing ok after the "almost cut you up" episode? We hope so....

Oh no! So glad to hear everything went well in the end. My human's mom had a heart attack once too, but she knew what it was. Silly lady called my human and said "I think I'm having a heart attack" my human told her to get off the phone and call 911 already. She got better, too, and we get to see her all the time. This big sickness is nothing to mess around with, thanks for the extra tips.

Holy Pug! Your mom must be losing her mind! As if Sandy wasn't bad enough and your obstruction wasn't bad enough, now this? If your human can, she should take a spa day or something. Just to make sure she doesn't completely fall apart. Just reading about all of this is enough to stress us out!

We are so glad that Sophie's mom is okay now and hope that your whole family is done with excitement for a long time!

This is Sophie's mom. Thanks everyone for well wishes. I am back home snuggling up with Sophie to keep me warm. Women's heart attack symptoms are so vague that it's a wonder I am not still sitting on my bedside wondering why I feel so bad! Best part was the helicopter ride, though I wasn't too aware of what was happening. Always pleased with a happy ending. Puglet and I were lucky.

I cant imagine all that thumbs is going through. My love goes out to casa de puglet. And if you have to be weekly or even bi-daily, that is totally ok!!!!
Big hugs and love.

Wow Puglet! I missed you but obviously it's more important to make sure that everyone is healthy. I hope Sophie's human feels back to normal soon and that your human can start breathing at a normal rate!

I know an Anonymous mentioned it earlier, but it's true that women have differeent symptoms than men and they are more likely to have stomach aches or back pain than the classic symptoms. That's why the death rates for women having heart attacks is higher than for men. The other thing is that if you think you are having a heart attack, you should always call 911. I know that Sophie's mom didn't know, but I work in an emergency department and some people gt so sick on the way to the hospital that they can't be saved by the time they arrive. Also the paramedics can do special tests to see if you're having a heart attack and make sure you get to th heart hospital super fast!

I'm glad you're back, Puglet! I hope your human isn't working too hard and that you're able to get out for some adventures!

Oh Pug, how superscary!! We're sending pug juju to Cousin Sophie's mom and the whole family.

Just so you know, we love getting you whenever we can--daily, weekly.... as long as we get some Pug!!

Oh no Puglet! I am so sorry that you all had such a scary thing to deal with! We are all relieved to find out that Sophie's Mom is back nome with her, and feeling better. We loved meeting her at the photo shoots, and think she is super nice. Thank you for the info about heart attack symptoms. Mom says you are absolutely right. Women can have different symptoms then men, and not everyone know that.

Hi Puglet,
Glad you are getting thumb time and glad to hear Sophie's mom is doing OK. Our mom is one of those people that would rather lay down and hope things go away instead of going to a doctor.. she can be stupid that way.

Talk to you tomorrow...the Daily Puglet needs to be the Daily Puglet..

Dear Puglet,

So glad you and Sophie's Mom have emerged unscathed (almost, anyway) from your potentially serious health troubles.

We are glad that you are going to try to post daily because we miss you and because we worry when you're incommunicado. The 1000 Pugs project has made the pug community in North American a LOT smaller, and we can't help but feel directly connected to you even if we're living separate lives many miles away.

Best strong juju to you and your family from North Toronto

@ AtlantaPug - you need to chill... I donated to kickstarter (even if I never receive anything on this - I was happy to donate to it because without it, this whole project never would have happened(.

You say that having medical issues is not an excuse??!! So I am guessing that if you ever have some sort of medical issue or ever get sick that you will still go into work?

Do I want my photos - yes. However, I am waiting patiently for them. To say she has made tens of thousands on this is ridiculous. You indicated that you contacted SEPRA and they did receive their donation. Have you contacted ANY of the other rescues to see if they received their donation? Maybe you should do that before you start spouting dollar figures and accusing someone of scamming. Also something to think about - what about all the expenses involved in traveling around the country to the various sites - you have plane tickets, hotel expenses, rental car, gas, food, etc...

@ Atlantapug...
I cannot imagine how you come up with the "facts and figures" you quote. If you confirmed the portion of the donation you made via 1000 Pugs, then otherwise back off. This project does not belong to you, nor does Amanda owe you anything other than the promise this will come to fruition when it comes. This entire project, this blog, Miss Amanda, Dutch, and Puglet are here for us to ENJOY. Your nasty comments and ridiculous threats are a complete downer.
Take a chill pill and enjoy the results of the event when they come. If you are too eager to see photos of you dog...take your own picture.

Where is that nasty @Atlantapug comment???? Ohhh, I just want to chew one of her legs off and beat her into a coma with it!

She is nothing more than a self-centered witch.

Let her get her whiny ass down here to the New Jersey shore and help with the clean up and see all that people lost, every single possession they owed in life. Lets see how much she'd whine about what SHE doesn't have.

Please don't attack Puglet or Miss Amanda. They're really doing the best they can and they're about the only thing keeping me smiling and half hanging on right now!!!

@atlantapug I think your apology to Amanda should be as public as your tantrum. I wish a photo of my pug not appearing were the biggest problem in my life. You must be very lucky. How about some compassion for those with medical problems?

Anonymous said...

@atlantapug- please tell me the name of your favorite pug rescue, and I wil personally make a donation of your FULL $50 portrait fee in your name. That way, you get everything-your photo, your pic in the book, and the rescue gets money, too.
I didn't take a picture for the book, but because I live close to Amanda and Dutch and Puglet, we have met. I truly believe this project was done out of love and to share her gift of photography. You would not be able to see your pug in a book this year or next year (or any other year) any other way. $50 is a reasonable fee for a unique photo of your pooch, and if you want something generic, Sears does that any day of the week.
Amanda and her talent are special, and I'm sure your picture will be worth the wait.
Say the word, and I will send a check today to the rescue of your choice. Just back off and show some compassion.

Please don't become the Weekly Pulget! (That made me laugh, sometimes my thumbs don't work either.)

I'm sure poor Sophie was sad and worried about her mom. I hope she's doing much better now.

Thanks for the medical tips. I had something bad happen to me a few years ago, and I didn't go to the hospital like I should have. The doctor yelled at me when I told him what had happened. If it happens again, I know now. :)
